PEKIN - Marion Jacob Goeken, 89, of Pekin passed away at 10:17 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Pekin Hospital.
He was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Delavan to Jacob and Margaret Goeken. He married Evelyn McGarvey on March 8, 1942. She died Feb. 23, 2008, in Pekin.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca (James) Smith of Pekin and Nancy Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Louise Goeken.
Marion served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he served on the church council, the pastor/parish committee and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
He worked many years as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34 in Peoria, retiring in June 1979.
He was a lifetime member of Empire Lodge 126 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Pekin, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, the Mohammed Temple, Shrine and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be immediately following visitation. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Marion's grandmother, Angelina (Buss) Goeken was a sister to my grandfather Jacob Janssen Buss who resided at Blue Hill, Nebraska.
