DEER CREEK - Mark A. Wiegand, 54, of 32715 County Line Road, Deer Creek, died at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1954, in Peoria to Simon C. Jr. and Mary Ellen (Aberle) Wiegand. He married Sandra Gillespie on April 15, 1983, in Pekin.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy Wiegand, of Deer Creek; his children, Sonya (Mark) Vollmer of Cedarburg, Wis., Sarah Ellen Wiegand of Goodfield, Chad Wiegand of Washington, Sheri (Jerry) Gibson of Mackinaw and Clayton A. Wiegand of Deer Creek; seven grandchildren, Mark and Andie Vollmer, Brianna and Aleena Wiegand, Tyler, Joy and Grace Gibson; two brothers, Steven (Mary Ellen) Wiegand of Mackinaw and David (Janet) Wiegand of Deer Creek; three sisters, Lois (Ronald) Underwood of Eureka, Marilyn (Richard) Tanner of Speer, Ill., and Cheryl (Sid) Messner of Hancock, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A farmer in the Deer Creek area, Mark was the third generation to farm on the home place.
He also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation on its snow removal road crew.
He was a member of the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church; and Tazewell County Farm Bureau.
He served on the Deer Creek-Mackinaw School Board for the past 15 1/2 years.
His greatest joy was spending time on the farm with his children and grandchildren. Every grandchild looked forward to Grandpa's tractor rides.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Goodfield-Congerville Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Congerville. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Goodfield Apostolic Christian Church; Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka; or to the Mark Wiegand Agricultural Scholarship at Deer Creek-Mackinaw High School in care of First Security Bank of Mackinaw.
