PEORIA - Mary Jayne "Alex" Iber, 90, of Peoria passed away at 12:36 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, Ill.
She was born April 19, 1917, in Champaign, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Mary (Lateer) Alexander. She married Robert W. Iber in 1939, in Champaign, Ill. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Noel (Phil) Cline of Peoria, Ill., and Lynn Ann (Bill) Reno of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one son, Robert W. (Kathleen) Iber Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard Alexander.
She was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She was an active member of the Junior League of Peoria and also served a term on the board of the National Association of Junior Leagues. She helped organize and was a charter member of the Peoria Easter Seal Auxiliary. She served three terms on the Board of Education of District 86 in East Peoria and was a longtime active member of the Methodist Hospital Service League.
Mary Jayne was commonly known as Alex by her friends and acquaintances.
She had been a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria and served as an elder under then-pastor Dr. Robert Gates. She and her husband had been members of the Country Club of Peoria for more than 50 years. She was a current member of the First Federated Church of Peoria.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel Jr. and Pastor Paul Park will officiate. A gathering at the Galena Room will follow the service.
Richard S. Wilton, funeral director through Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home, 428 W. McClure Ave., Peoria, is in charge of the arrangements.
