east galesburg - Paul LeRoy Deffebaugh, 57, of 608 California Ave., East Galesburg, Ill., died at 12:21 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.
He was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Fayetteville, Ark., the son of William S. and Willie L. Childress Deffebaugh. He married Cynthia Margaret Hans on May 26, 1984, at the Second Baptist Church in Galesburg, Ill. She survives of East Galesburg, Ill.
Surviving are four daughters, Denise Deffebaugh of Galesburg, Ill., Charlotte Mariah (George) Kollasch-Bailey of Iowa City, Iowa, Cassandra Evelyn (Mark) Bailey-McCullough of Galesburg, Ill., and Candice Jeannette (John) Tapia of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Alexander J. Bailey and Jasmine M. Bailey, both of Iowa City, Iowa, Paige A. Tapia and Nicholas R. Tapia, both of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Raymond R. Levey of Galesburg, Ill., and John Gibbs of Galesburg, Ill.; two brothers, Roscoe (Desiree) Deffebaugh of Galesburg, Ill., and Tommy Lee (Tracy) Deffebaugh of Hanover, N.H.; one sister, Jackie S. Pendleton of Fayetteville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
He was reared and educated in Fayetteville, Ark., and attended two years of college at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark., where he was a member of the football team.
He worked for Gates Rubber Company as a braider operator for more than 21 years, retiring in 1990.
He umpired for baseball games in the Galesburg and Knoxville areas, retiring in 1987.
He was an avid chess player winning local tournaments.
He was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria, Ill., and attended the New Home Missionary Baptist Church of Galesburg, Ill.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 4:03 p.m. at the New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Galesburg, Ill., with Pastor Deveraux Hubbard officiating. Visitation will be from 3:04 to 4:03 p.m. at the New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Galesburg, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Baptist Church, 603 W. Nebraska, Peoria, Ill. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
