I was troubled to hear of the passing of my childhood friend, Phyllis.
I knew her as the smartest student in Irving Grade School. In fact, when we attended Woodruff High, she and Doris White were in almost every club, organization, and sporting activity in school in the four year they attended high school. (checkout her yearbook).
She was in National Honors Society, and all of the advanced math and science classes as well.
And yes, she did these things quietly and without a lot of fanfare, but she did them well.
However, she would not let herself be either ignored or minimized. Her energy and brilliance alway came through.
I watched her and learned the art of "quiet persistence" from her.
Family, friends know that God acts in ways we can't understand, but with His help we will come to accept.
Treasure her life and the values I know she gave you.
Then... pass them on. As long as you do, that part of her will live on.
May God bless you, and keep you.

I did not know Ms. Young as well as others, but I shared a few classes with Andrea and I accompanied Cedric and Xylina in middle and high school. Your mother was a special person. I have never had the honor of talking with her personally, she was a familiar face at woodruff high school and she had a passion for children to suceed and go beyond their dreams. If there was anything that anyone needed help with she was there. I was glad to be in her presense. Believe that your mother is in a very special place. I will always remember her spirit and her positive attitude towards life, education and children.I will keep the family in my prayers.

I really did not know Ms. Young but I went to school with three of her children. She was always a positive person and whenever I saw her she always had a smile on her face. I will always remember her passion for children to have further education. My sympathy goes out to the family through these trying times.

when I first heard of Sis.Philly going home to be w/ the Lord, my mind took me back to vacation Bible School as a child. Philly would tarry w/ us as we would seek God for the Holy Ghost. She was one of those saints that had a SPECIAL KIND OF LOVE for the young people! As hard as it may be for you to "digest" this loss, allow God to comfort you and KNOW that Philly is taking her rest in the presence of the Lord!!! You all are in my prayers!! I LOVE YA'll!!!!!

"Tomorrow is never promised today."
Though tomorrow is not promised today, Mrs. Young taught me to seize every moment, to reach for every opportunity to improve ourselves and to stay aligned with our destiny. I am convinced that Mrs. Young was a blessing sent to me from God as she has been to all that she has come into contact with. She exemplified the high spirit of a Christian woman, and was dedicated to serving the community and youth.
Many people that are where they are today would not be where they are had it not been for Mrs. Young. I am proud to stand here as a person who benefited from Mrs. Youngs sheer dedication and love.
It is with great hope for what God will bring that I wish the Young and Warr family peace, joy, and all encompassing love. Though tomorrow is never promised today, it is today, and tomorrow, that I will remember her smile, hear her laugh, and recognize in my own life the values she promoted.
In due remembrance... -KCM

Ray and family;
I was surprised and sorry to hear about the passing of Phyllis (Philli). She has been a great inspiration to me, one who I admired for her wisdom and knowledge. "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all of thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path." Proverbs 3;5-6 I will be praying for you and your family. Remember, You, "I can do all things thru Christ who strengtheneth me." Phillipians 4:13

To the family of Mrs. Phyllis J. Young,
Pastor Leroy Davis and the Word of Faith Christian Center Church family wish to express their deep sorrow for the loss of your loved one.
We understand the anguish and heartbreak felt when the time comes to release our loved one back to the Father, but take heart for the word of God says, “So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory, it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power, it is sown in a natural body, it is raised in a spiritual body.” 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 NIV
If there is anything the Word of Faith family can do to comfort you during your time of bereavement. Please let us know.
In the solace of God’s grace,
Pastor Leroy Davis
