CHILLICOTHE - Robert Dale Powers, 95, of Chillicothe, Ill., passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Heritage Manor.
Born March 20, 1916, in Newton, Iowa, to Lester R. and Lula (Wheeler) Powers, he married Genevieve M. Kneer on Nov. 18, 1939, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are a brother, Raymond (Lois) Powers of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Waneta Gunlock of Peoria; a daughter-in-law, Gail (Michael) Guilfoyle of Lowpoint; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William E. and Robert D. Powers; a brother; and a sister.
Dale, as he was known to his friends, was a shipping foreman at Hiram Walker Inc., retiring in 1976.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge and Peoria Casting Club.
Dale was an avid golfer who played until age 94. He also loved fishing trips up north.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Interment of cremains will be in Princeville Cemetery at a later date. Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

I always liked Dale, he was easy to talk too, and he was a good listener, he made you feel what you were saying was important. He will be missed.

Uncle Dale was a wonderful person,so kind and considerate of everyone.We always enjoyed his visits to Florida .We will miss him.
