Robert Schlehuber Obituary

PEORIA - Robert "Bob" Schlehuber, 89, formerly of Peoria, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, in Rockford.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1923, in Peoria, the son of Clarence and Veronica (Scanlan). He was married to Catherine "Kay" Lange on Sept. 16, 1950, and she preceded him in death in 2005, after 55 years of marriage.

He graduated from Spalding Institute in Peoria and the University of Illinois, BSGE, BSEE.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, charter member of the original Parish Council, chairman of Holy Family Catholic Church building program, past president of Rockford Noon Lions Club and lifetime 3rd degree Knight of Columbus.

Bob was a registered professional engineer for more than 50 years in Illinois and Wisconsin. He was employed as an electrical engineer by Beling Consultants, Orput Associates, Entech Associates and Engineering Services. Bob was the senior engineer for a number of local projects, such as Singer Zone Center, State of Illinois Office Building, Jefferson Street Bridge Lights, Winnebago Public Safety Building, Rockford Metro Center, Jefferson High School, Eisenhower Middle School and numerous banks, jails, elementary and high schools and commercial buildings in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.

Bob's hobbies included his family, fishing, reading and smoking his pipe.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Bridges of OSF St. Anthony Emergency Room and OSF Hospice and Home Care.

Survivors include his children, Gary (Nancy) of Loves Park, Larry (Karen) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jim of Fort Calhoun, Neb., Nancie (Larry) Brown of Loves Park and Michael (Chudar) of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Tiffany (Tom) Stone, Elizabeth (Ryan) Kreher, Laura (Chris) James, Bob, Eric, Ryan, Patrick, Kyle, Connor, Ajay and Rohan Schlehuber and John and Colleen Brown; great-grandchildren, Makenna and Tucker Stone; sisters, Claire (Charles) Reilley of La Habra, Calif., and Sister Mary Schlehuber OP of Sinsinawa, Wis.; sister-in-law, Patty Schlehuber of Carlsbad, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fran (Al) Dugar and Honey (Jim) Tooley; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road. Visitation continues from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Entombment will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Poor Clares Monastery, 2111 S. Main St., Rockford, IL 61102; or Center for Sight and Hearing, 8038 MacIntosh Lane, Rockford, IL 61107.

Sorry to about Bob's passing. I remember the time My sister & husband, my wife & I, and Bob & Kay went on a cruise in the Caribbean together. Bob & I used to send emails all the time, he always had a good joke. May he rest in peace.
