KICKAPOO - Dr. Robert Rae Zinser, 67, of Kickapoo, Ill., passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 10:26 a.m., peacefully at his home.
Robert was born on March 21, 1947, in Peoria, Ill., to Rae C. and Thelma Rose (Heinz) Zinser. He married Christine E. (Barth) Zinser on Jan. 4, 1969, at St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; his son, Robert Rae Jr. (Mamie) Zinser; and daughters, Jennipher (Mark) Vorhees, Drs. Katherine (Joshua) Barnewolt and Kelly (Kenny) Bizosky. He had nine grandchildren, Madelaine Rose Zinser, Tyler Vorhees, Charlie Vorhees, Lillian Rose Zinser, Robert Zinser, Ethan Barnewolt, Edith Rose Barnewolt, Cleveland Bizosky and Grant Bizosky. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom Zinser (Jody) and Jim (Sheila) Zinser; sister-in-law, Patricia Forquer; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert graduated from Spalding Institute in 1965 and Palmer College of Chiropractic (Davenport, Iowa) in 1971. He was very proud to serve the Peoria area as a chiropractor for 41 years.
He was a member of the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association and St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo.
He was a well respected member of his community, volunteering his time and talents in numerous projects and events throughout his beloved town of Kickapoo. His impact on so many unknown people to his family is an inspiration. We are grateful for all the many lives he has touched and how much he was loved.
Bob loved his farm, his cows and tinkering in his workshop. He was a licensed pilot and loved his days of flying, speaking of it often over the last few years. His Colorado hunting trips over the years with his son and very close friends were his ultimate source of relaxation, also contributing to his love of photography and the mountains.
His greatest joys were his grandchildren and his dogs, Annie and Gunner.
Visitation will be held today, March 15, 2015, from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Kickapoo, Ill. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo with visitation one hour prior. Father Joseph Donton will be officiating. I am always going to remember Doc Z & think of him often, especially how kind he was. Christine, do you remember Doc, yourself, Don & I drinking champagne at the office at midnight at the first War Memorial address. I remember him following someone to the dump in his suit, old pick up & the dog trying to see if a fence a man was taking there was in good enough shape for us to use. That man probably thought he was crazy but Don & I knew he was just so special. Well I guess Don & he will be together now. Sorry I had not known of his passing sooner so I could have come to his services. Christine & family my heart is with you. It will be hard with such a wonderful person who had an enormous presence gone from your everyday life. Doc-We miss you.

A classmate of Bob's and I drove over to Palmer college to deliver some things he had forgotten at home. This was on the old roads before the Interstate. When we arrived at Palmer our friend's back was locked up. Dr. Bob immediately gave him an adjustment.
What a saint.

Bob'a office was directly across the street from Larry ORussa's insurance office. These two guys joked w one another every week. Bob was constantly adjusting Larry's back. Sympathy doesn't take away the pain of loss, but hopefully knowing the goodness and kindness that he extended to people will fill that void in your hearts. Prayers and sympathy are extended to his family. I suspect Larry and Bob are already together and looking down on us and smiling. God bless. Sincerely. Vickey Sue ORussa (Larry ORussa's widow)

I worked part-time at Dewey's General Store in Kickapoo and "Doc" was a regular customer. He was such a sweet man and I remember him telling me about how he and his wife would have date nights on a shoestring budget..I think it involved Hostess products!! He had great stories and I'm sure his family cherishes them all. My condolences. Tracy Tucker

Although I had only met him for a short time, Madelaine and her family were able to show me how great of an individual he really was. He was a strong man, a fighter, and most importantly a lover. Just from spending one weekend with him, I was able to see just how much he loved and cared for the people around him, especially his children and grandchildren. You may be gone, but your image as a role model within a countless number of people's lives will never die. Rest In Peace.
