PEORIA HEIGHTS - Sarah Lillian Bowker, 87, of Peoria Heights passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Health Care.
For 35 years she and her husband, Gene Bowker, lived at 2506 N. Wilson in Peoria. They had both been long-term postal letter carriers, she for 24 years.
Sarah was born on Feb. 24, 1927, in Peoria to George "Dewey" Gregg and Dorothy Thrall Gregg. She married Duane Jordan and raised two sons, Gene Jordan (Joy) of Bayfield, Wis., and Stan Jordan (Teresa) of East Peoria. In 1975, she married Gene O. Bowker, who has one daughter, Sandra Young (Brian) of Peoria; and a deceased son, David Bowker.
While working as postal carriers and into retirement, Sarah and Gene Bowker were involved together in a photography business, shooting many weddings and events, managed Town and Country Bowling, gave ballroom dancing lessons and organized retiree recognition dinners for the Post Office. Sarah had enough sisters for their own "almost famous" bowling team.
Sarah was a member of Our Saviour's Chapel Church.
After some serious health problems, she moved to Cornerstone Rehab Center and acted as a special ambassador for goodwill among residents and staff alike. She enjoyed her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom she believed inherited their energy from her.
Sarah said with a wink that she was preceded in death by almost everyone, including a lot of people she plans on looking up: both parents, five sisters, three brothers, one daughter, one stepson, two nieces and one nephew.
A private interment will be at Parkview Cemetery. A brief memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Health Care Center, for Cornerstone residents, staff and immediate family on Jan. 31 at 1:15 p.m. At 2 p.m., there will be a gathering in the Cornerstone Dining Room, open to anyone wishing to join in celebration of Sarah's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be used for new table decorations at Cornerstone.
Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

My husband, Jim and I, went to our Saviour's Chapel years ago and Sarah and Gene were always fun and welcoming. We'll always remember her smile and great humor.
We are thinking of her family at this time.

Dear Gene and Stan, I don't know if you remember me but I was married to Gary and we had Lisa and Joely. I loved your mother so much and we were just talking about her. It is too bad we lost touch over the years. She was a wonderful person and I know how much you will miss her. I still live in the Peoria area so maybe we can make contact. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were friends many years ago but sadly lost touch. She was such a wonderful loving and caring lady and I was blessed to call her friend.

Dear Sarah's family. The world has lost once again an angel....she and Gene were the Grebner familys angels. She was not only our mail person but a true friend to us. I am not certain if you remember us but my son Todd and I came to the Nursing Home in Wi. to visit with you on behalf of Sarah. God has two very spwcial helpers with him and the world will be much brighter because of two bright stars in the sky named Gene and Sarah. God bless you all. The Grebners Helen and Todd formerly of Peoria now of Bessemer, Michigan
