William Hall Obituary

William "Bill" K. Hall
PEORIA - Dr. William "Bill" K. Hall, professor emeritus of Bradley University, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, in hospice care in Wheat Ridge, CO. He resided in Broomfield, CO, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
The son of Don S. Hall and Lucile Hall of Oakley, KS, he was born on October 1, 1942. He married Carla Dawn Hall on August 13, 1977, in Kansas City, KS.
He is survived by his wife; son, Justin Don (and Casey Hall) of Denver, CO; daughter Kirsten Dawn (and Jes Hall) of Farmington, IL; his sister, Mary Jane Hall of Boulder, CO; and his grandchildren, Delaney and Keely of Denver, CO, and Ava and Adalynn of Farmington, IL.
His parents preceded his death.
He was born in Hays, KS, and raised in Oakley, KS, where he became an Eagle Scout, and later represented the 109th district in the Kansas State Legislature at the ripe age of 22, at the time, the youngest Representative in the state's legislative history.
As a member of Zeta Chi, he graduated from Baker University in 1964. He then completed his MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Kansas, where his love of Jayhawks basketball began.
He began his teaching career at Bradley University in 1969. During his 42 years at the school, he won the Putnam Award for Teaching Excellence, was the Chairman of the Political Science Department, and rarely met a committee he wouldn't serve on. He was a fervent supporter of the Braves, especially in the basketball arena and the soccer field, where he was never found booing referees.
As a Fulbright Scholar in Japan, he lectured at the University of Tokyo and the Foreign Service Training Institute. He also spent many years as an integral member of the Washington Semester Program at American University in Washington, D.C. Both of these, expanding his ability to educate students about American government and foreign affairs.
He was a tireless researcher and published many articles relating to the law and government of the United States, on the local, state and national level. He was also a published author of multiple books, including "Illinois Government and Politics, A Reader" and "The New Institutions of Federalism." Both are serious page turners, for sure.
Community involvement was high on his list of priorities, as evident in his membership in many organizations. He served as President, Vice President and/or Treasurer for the League of Women Voters and the Alzheimer's Associations of Peoria. He was also involved in the Human Rights Campaign, the Democratic Party of Colorado and generally anything involving civil rights. He also spent numerous years officiating Illinois high school soccer.
He was an active member of multiple churches and spent 31 years as an integral member of Northwest United Methodist Church in Peoria, serving 20 of those years as Treasurer. He spent 2 years as a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Peoria, assuming leadership roles in Adult Sunday School and the Doughboys. He joined the Community United Church of Christ in Boulder, after moving to Colorado, where he was a member for over 3 years.
Cremation has been accorded. An open house celebration of life will be from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at United Presbyterian Church, 2400 W. Northmoor Road, Peoria, IL 61614. Bill's family will welcome the opportunity to greet friends during this time, and to share fond memories.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bradley University (in the Memo line, please specify the William K. Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund), and the Alzheimer's Association.

Dr. Hall was my teacher at Bradley in the early 1990's. I was sad to learn of his passing. He was a great professor, very energetic and taught me a lot about government and the political system. My condolences to his family.

I just learned of Bill's passing yesterday and was shocked to read his obituary which was sent to me by a frat brother from Baker. I grew up in Oakley, Kansas and attended grade school thru high school with Bill. We were in scouting together and attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 1958. Bill was one year behind me in school but we were good friends through out our school days. We both attended Baker University where his Mother and my Father attended school as well. Also both our sisters who were good friends also attended Baker.

Bill was Student Council President his Sr. year in HS, he was active in many school activities, graduated as valedictorian. At Baker he was a member of a fraternity and very active in many school activities including student council. He was always on the Dean's list and graduated with honors.

He had a great personality, came from a great family and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his family. You fought the good fight and left a big mark with all you accomplished as a friend, student, professor, husband, Father and a Christian. May you RIP!

Bill was a fraternity brother and friend. We saw Bill at his (and my wife's) 50th anniversary of their graduation from Baker U. Even after all those years, we enjoyed an evening of discussing our days at Baker and Zeta Chi and probably spent more than half our time laughing. Of course, his annual Christmas letter revealed his great sense of humor (and I could detect that same sense of humor is a few parts of his Obit.

We will miss this man.

Dr. Hall was one of my favorite professors at Bradley. He understood the political culture of our country and taught me how to comprehend what was being conveyed to society.
His political science classes were pure joy to attend and he made me a better student for being part of them.
In addition being our faculty advisor to our fraternity, Tau Epsilon Phi, he became are friend. He will be greatly missed.

Dr Hall had a profound influence on many students and I was no exception. I remember Dr Hall most for his mentoring many of the members of my fraternity Tau Epsilon Phi. He was a friend to us all as much as he was an advisor to us. He would attend chapter meetings with us and on many occasions he would join us for late night meals afterwards. I offer my sincerest condolences to Dr Hall's family and may his memory be a blessing to all Mark Stuart Class of 1973

I am sorry to hear of Dr. Hall's passing. I was blessed to have had him as a teacher at Bradley University. Like many of his students, I was fortunate to have been in his classes and to interact with him personally. Thirty years later, I still remember many of the lessons and stories he shared with us. Most of all, I will always be thankful for his patience, kindness and guidance.

Bill had an incredible capacity for open-mindedness, curiosity, thoughtfulness, and reflection, constantly ready to be impressed by life's offerings. As a friend, Bill was one-of-a-kind and I'll forever consider him an extraordinarily special person. Though we've written our last email and had our final conversation over food and drinks, his spirit and memory will be with me always.

My thoughts extend to Bill's family and anyone lucky enough to have known him.
