John Richardson Wonderly Jr., 69, of Huntington, passed away at 3:11 pm Thursday, November 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born December 24, 1955 in Huntington, Indiana son of John R. Wonderly Sr. and Patricia J (Millner) Wonderly. He graduated in 1974 from Huntington Catholic High School. John began his career by going to work in 1975 for his Grandfather Scoop Millner with the City of Huntington. He then worked for the City of Wabash and Container Corporation, before retiring in December 2020 from Huntington Aluminum Incorporated. John married the love of his life Shirley Kay Elston on September 15, 1979, in Huntington. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington.
Survivors include his loving Wife, Shirley Wonderly of Huntington, IN; Two Daughters, Kathryn (Mathew) Pearson of Huntington, IN, Barbra (Andrew) Sprinkle of Huntington, IN; Two Step-Sons, Paul (Stacey) Galo of Huntington, IN, Jeff Galo of Huntington, IN; Five Grandchildren, Owen John Pearson, Amber, Sarah, Heather, Amy; Five Great Grandchildren; Two Sisters, Chris Long of Huntington, IN, Tami (Ben) Reust of Huntington, IN; Brother, Doug (Karen) Wonderly of Auburn, IN and Two Nieces & Four Nephews
Thanks to the late-breaking ancestry websites mic drop – John also has Six Half Siblings, Sandy, Debbie, Gary, Jeff, Craig and Lucy who has passed away. He is preceded in death by his Biological Dad William DeMaio who he never met but always kind of sensed was out there, probably chucking at the cosmic irony from the great beyond.
John is also preceded in death by his Father, John R. Wonderly, Sr., Mother, Patricia J. Wonderly, Grandfather, Fred "Scoop" Millner, Grandmother, Lucille Millner, Grandfather, Robert Wonderly, Grandmother, Doris Wonderly-Pabst, Father-In-Law, Ernest Elston, Mother-In-Law, Annabelle Elston, Step-Son, Frank Galo.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Adkins Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN. Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 pm
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
