Marie Elizabeth Shoemaker, 89, of rural Wabash, died at 6:00 am, Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Wabash Parkview Hospital. She was born November 5, 1934, in Wabash, Indiana to Harman Paul and Marie (Garland) Cook.
"Liz" married Hayse M Shoemaker on her 18th birthday, November 5, 1952. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 8, 2022. Liz was a member of the College Corner Brethren Church. She retired from Gypsum in 1984 and then did house cleaning for approximately 15 years. She and Hayse enjoyed 22 years of retirement in Zephyrhills, FL. In 2018 they moved back to Wabash to be near their family.
She is survived by three children: Debbie (Rick) Sweet, Michael (Gay) Shoemaker, Fay (Gary) Sweet, eight grandchildren: Ryan, Jeremy and Andrea Sweet, Stephanie (Shoemaker) Rigney, Kyle Shoemaker, Jennifer (Sweet) Kling, Kimberly (Sweet) Lahrman, and Lee Sweet; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at College Corner Brethren Church, 8996 S 500 W Wabash, IN. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church.
Preferred memorials are College Corner Brethren Church or Gideons International.
