Rita M. Shannon, 80, of North Manchester, Indiana, died at 12:00 pm, Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born on October 7, 1945, in North Grove, Indiana, to Wallace and Martha Mary (Poor) Dangerfield.
Rita attended Harrison Township School in North Grove from 1st through 8th grade, then attended Clay Township High School. She worked at Miller's Merry Manor – East in Wabash, and also worked 17 years at Timbercrest Health in North Manchester. She enjoyed cooking, baking, doing puzzles, watching Perry Mason, but most importantly her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Cindy (Randy) DeWitt of Laketon, Indiana, Charlotte Downey of North Manchester, and Victor (Gracie) Shannon of California, two grandchildren, Kyle (Jessica) DeWitt of Andrews, Indiana, and Tabitha (Chaz) Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, four great-grandchildren, Braeden Hilyard, Benton Hilyard, Myla DeWitt, and Eliza DeWitt, all of Andrews, brother, Ricki (Fusako) Dangerfield of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sister, Vicki (Phil) Overvold of Velva, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Tom Dangerfield and Larry Dangerfield, and two sisters, Jane Lampkin and Sue Birckett.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service – Roann, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann, with Pastor Chris Ponchot officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery, Miami County. Friends may call 12:30 – 2:00 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
