Jon Mangual Obituary
Born in Paterson, N.J., he was the son of Luis and Ana (Garcia) Mangual.
He was a 2008 graduate of Pocono Mountain West High School and a member of St. Ann's Church, Tobyhanna.
He was a highly respected football and basketball player at Pocono Mountain West. A two-time Mountain Valley Conference MVP, he led the boys basketball team to the championships for the past two seasons. He was Pocono Record's Player of the Year and a two-time All-MVC and Pocono Record All-Area first-team selection.
He was a quarterback and defensive back for the Panthers football team when they won their first MVC title this past football season. An All-MVC and All-Area first-team pick, he was also an All-MVC second-team choice. In his last game as a high school senior, he played in the McDonald's All-Star football game at Nazareth High School.
In addition to his parents, Luis and Ana, he is survived by a brother, Angel Mangual and his wife, Shea, of East Orange, N.J.; a niece and nephew, Donyah and Dreyden Mangual; several aunts and uncles, Mirta and Amador Torress, Fermina and Orlando Mangual, Norma Mangual and Jorge and Annie Gorritz; maternal grandmother, Iris Julio Quiroc; and paternal grandmother, Margarita Rodriquez.
There will be a viewing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley. The Rev. Father Richard Ghezzi will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at St. Ann's Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pocono Mountain West football team, in care of Pocono Mountain School District, P.O. Box 200, Swiftwater, PA 18370.

We were in shock when we were told by our son michael. We were away at the time. I cannot tell you how much my heart broke for you and for the anguish you feel. i feel the your pain mutually as i am surprised and hurt by the news of Johnny's passing. He is in a better place watching over us and blessing us each second that passes on.
Johnny you were a outgoing guy. The jokes you made when we would hang out with Joey. I remember before I left to Peru two weeks ago, the last two "friends" I saw were Joey and yourself. Both of you playing basketball in my driveway ... it's still hard for me to realize that was just two weeks ago. Time isn't granted but I am glad to know that at least you enjoyed your time alive. Dear Mangual Family, I have stood in your shoes. Its 17 years and I can still feel all the emotions from time to time and that's OK. It lets me know I have not forgotten one minute with my son. Look for that certain quiet moment, (you'll know it when it happens), when you feel Jon touching your heart to let you know he's ok. Remember and embrace it. My heart goes out to the entire family, especially Jon's mom.
As a mom who lost a child in a car accident 11 years ago on 8/14/97, I can tell you that you have to rely on your family and friends for the support you're going to need.
As someone told me 11 years ago "Take it a day at a time, if that's too long take it an hour at a time and if that's too long take it a minute at a time".
I will be praying for Jon's family to have strength and the ability to lean on one another for comfort.

jonny, although I didn't know you very well I felt a connection to you. You used to hang out after school during track season and at some of the practices and meets and i felt a connection to you. Maybe it was because of how everyone loved you and your charasnmatic personality. But i think it's because God puts people in our lives for a reason, although i may not know that reason right now. My heart goes out to your family and to ALL of your friends and teammates who loved you so much and whose hearts are broken. Don't think of him as gone away--
his journey's just begun
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost--
and he was loved so much.
