Joseph Vavro Obituary
Joseph Vavro, 76, of Kunkletown, formerly of Westbury, N.Y., passed away on Friday, April 14, at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. He was the husband of Gertrude Miseje Vavro. They had been married for 47 years.
Born in Slovakia on Dec. 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Matus and Johanna Martinkova Vavro.
He worked for Standard Folding as a machinist in Jackson Heights, N.Y., for 25 years before retiring in 2003.
He was a member of the Slovak League and The Jednota Club in New York.
In addition to his loving wife, Gertrude, he is survived by a son, Andre Vavro and his wife, Isabel, of Great Neck, N.Y.; two daughters, Elise Fanelli and her husband, Lance, of Westbury, N.Y. and Michele Rokkos and her husband, Steve, of Greece; and six grandchildren, Anton, Olivia, Christina, Monique, Daphne and Ariana.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, from the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home Inc., Route 209, Gilbert. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the service at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Gilbert, with the Rev. Father William J. McCawley as celebrant. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
