Thomas James Haycock Jr., 85, of Nazareth, died Tuesday, May 18, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. His wife, the former Minnie (Miller) died February of last year.
Born on Sept. 5, 1918 in Parowan, Utah, he was the son of the late Thomas James and Betsy (Benson) Haycock Sr.
He was the assistant director of safe guards at the AEC Atomic Energy Commission in Rockville, Md. until 1972. He then worked as a consulting engineer for Brookhaven Laboratory in Long Island, N.Y. until 1978.
He was a Chemical Engineering graduate of University of Utah.
He was very active in the Minsi Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America. At age 71, Mr. Haycock hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nazareth. He was also a member of Santa Fe, Ariz. Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and a shriner.
He is survived by one son, J. Edwin Haycock of Lower Mount Bethel Township; eight grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn and Robert Haycock; one brother; and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, in the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, Johnsonville. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery, Washington Township, Pa.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
