David Baldwin Obituary

David Bruce Baldwin passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, at the age of 90. He was born on March 28, 1933, in Rockmart, Georgia to Clyde Albert and Lucille (Chatham) Baldwin. Bruce was a man of many accomplishments, including being a graduate of Rockmart High School where he was the starting center for the 1950 National, State, and Peanut Bowl Championship Football Team. He was presented the trophy for most outstanding lineman on the team. He went on to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mercer University where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1961. While at Mercer, he served on the Mercer Law Review and campus yearbook, The Cauldron.

Between earning these degrees, Bruce proudly served in the United States Air Force, both active duty and in the reserves from 1955 until 1970. He flew a C54 Skymaster with jet assisted take off (JATO) into the U.S.S.R. to evacuate American troops.

Bruce was a highly respected attorney who was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, the State Bar of Texas, the Supreme Court of the United States, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals, and all Texas federal courts. During his sixty years as a practicing attorney, he was honored to have served many notable members of the Dallas Community.

Bruce was an active member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a lifetime supporter of Rockmart First Methodist Church as well. He was a man of varied interests, including music, writing, traveling, hiking, and hunting for gemstones. He was also an avid sportsman and a member of the Dallas area Sierra Club. He enjoyed travels with his sister in later years. Some of their favorite places included Yellowstone National Park, the Algonquin Hotel in New York City, Iceland, and Scotland. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and followed them to his last days.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Mrs. Sam Albea, Jr., his sister-in-law, Mrs. James A. Baldwin, his nephew Bruce Albea, nieces Mari-Elena Baldwin and Alison Albea Reynolds, plus numerous great and great, great nieces, and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his mother and father and a brother, James Albert Baldwin.

Throughout his life, he was always eagerly available to offer support and advise to his nephew and nieces and to their children as well. The family will miss Uncle Bruce's brilliant mind, tall tales of wild business schemes, silly jokes, and infectious laugh that graced many family gatherings and holiday meals.

Services will be announced later as details are still being determined. The family requests donations to his memory to Rockmart First United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.

Bruce was such a genuine and wonderful man. I worked with him at Baldwin, Gilliland & Jones in the 1980's as legal secretary. Bruce will be greatly missed.
Rest in Peace my sweet friend. Georgia

Bruce Baldwin was a tremendously talented attorney. His special talent to me and my company was in his creative contract work. He cannot be replaced and he will never be forgotten. The special joy I will remember so fondly are the road trips we took when we solved the world´s problems. RIP, Bruce

Bruce was a treasured friend of mine (for more than 50 years) and of my wife (when we started dating in 1983). And he was an "uncle" to our son Todd.

Our 7 yr. old granddaughter said "I am sad that Mr. Bruce is gone".

Bruce was an integral member of our family (birthdays, graduations, everyday activities, etc.).

As an attorney he was fully committed to his clients. He had a truly exceptional ability to formulate solutions for difficult legal problems. He had a brilliant legal mind for an extraordinary scope of legal and business issues.
