Lawrence Axelrod Obituary

Ramona, CA
Larry Axelrod
, 70, of Ramona, CA, and formerly of Long Grove, IL, Anaheim Hills, CA, San Jose, CA, and Queens, NY, passed away peacefully at home after nine years battling cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Victor and Ruth Axelrod. Larry graduated with a BS in Economics from Stony Brook University, NY. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 41 years, daughter Anne and son-in-law Monte LaForti of Pasadena, CA, sister Norma and brother-in-law Mike Lieberman of Delray Beach, FL, and countless other family and friends, local and nationwide. Larry was preceded in death by his parents (Victor and Ruth), mother-in-law and father-in-law (Ellie & Ray Cormier), and his nephew, Bruce Lieberman. Before retiring in 2006, he was an insurance claim adjuster and investigator. Larry was a giving and supportive mentor who enjoyed many academic and recreational activities including: playing bridge and cribbage, solving crossword puzzles and trivia, tutoring math, tending his garden (especially the harvesting), helping friends problem-solve, singing folk music and playing guitar, and hiking in nature. He was known for his wit, dad-puns, and jokes. Larry will be remembered as kind and generous, always reaching out to help others. To give back to the Medical community that helped him in his cancer battle, he donated his body to UCSD School of Medicine to benefit science and research. A Celebration of Life is being planned for sometime next year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Larry's favorite surgeon, Dr. Jason Sicklick at UCSD, who is researching critical treatments for rare diseases at this link: https://tinyurl.com/2u5879mj Please sign the guest book online at legacy.com/obituaries/ ramonasentinel Lawrence A. Larry and I spent alot of good times together and we shared alot of meaningful experiences. He IS, I like to think of people as always being with us, a great guy and I am very happy that he is my friend. I know that wherever he is now, he is pitching in to help out in every way he can. He is a very thoughtful person, very intelligent, and very caring. All Larry does always, including now, is send out good vibes. We need to send him the same Love we always did, as he sends his love to us. I was going to say, only love, not tears...but I am shedding some tears while I write this. But I will get over that in time and meanwhile I am sending him my love and to Susan and to Anne. Thanks for being my friend Larry. Bless you.
