Q.T. Tutor Obituary

Q.T. Tutor, Jr., age 75, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, MS. He was born March 19, 1950, to Q.T. and Addlene Garner Tutor. Q.T. was a member of the First Methodist Church in Pontotoc. He retired from AT&T after 35+ years of service.

Q.T. was a man you could rely on. He was the "first call" for many, and if he didn't know how to fix something, he would figure it out with some electrical tape and a lot of know-how. He served first in everything he did: to Pontotoc First Methodist Church as a trustee, an usher, a handyman, and a dedicated, active member for as long as he was able; for many years as a volunteer firefighter for Pontotoc County; and always as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to so many.

Q.T. was an avid fisherman, spending many hours on the Tennessee River at his beloved J.P. Coleman State Park. He found solace in quiet time-hunting with his brothers, friends, and sons-in-law; gardening in the summer heat or tending to his yard year-round; woodworking, welding, and always tinkering in his famous shop (or shops, as the years went on). Q.T. was happiest when he was outdoors with the ones he loved. He enjoyed studying history and recounting stories to anyone patient enough to listen. He also found a love for motorcycles and rode across the U.S. with great friends who became family over the years.

Q.T.'s legacy is not only defined by the years he lived, but by the lives he shaped, the wisdom he instilled, and the love that will continue through generations. He will be remembered as a man who stood firm, loved well, and left the world better than he found it.6

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 P.M., Sunday, January 18, 2026, at First Methodist Church, and on Monday from 12 to 1 P.M., with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 19, 2026, with Wade Holland and Rev. Brian Griffith officiating. A private family burial will follow at Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the Tutor family with the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Jackson Tutor, one son, Chris Tutor (Christina), two daughters, Beth Miller (Lee) and Rebecca Brantley (Justin), three sisters, Diann Easterling (Larry), Clarice Turner and Regina Tutor, three brothers, Floyd Tutor, Mark Tutor (Deidre) and Jackie Tutor (Peggie), four grandchildren, Carson Brantley Snider (Sam), Caroline Miller Gammel (Hunter), Will Tutor and Joseph Tutor, and one great-grandson, Grady Gammel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Ann Claire Brantley, and two brothers, Chuck Tutor and Nathan Tutor.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Fitzgerald, Robert Diaz, Dan Bagley, Robert Wimbish, Joe Johnson, Ray Tackett, Don Clark, Jr., and Jackie Tutor. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Kelly, Charles Harrison, Richard Gray, David Horton, Floyd Tutor, and Mark Tutor.
