Roy Mobley

1951 - 2025

PONTOTOC - PONTOTOC - PONTOTOC - Roy Lee Mobley, 74, passed away on November 12, 2025, at NMMC Hospice - Tupelo, MS. He held a degree in music from Mississippi State University, and a degree in computer science from Murray State University. He retired as a newspaper photographer with the Commonwealth Journal in Somerset, KY, and moved back to his hometown, Pontotoc, MS. Roy was an accomplished musician. He won competitions as a euphonium player, then later learned to play bassoon. He performed with Tupelo Symphony among others. He loved his work as a photographer and won many awards for his work. After returning to Mississippi, he learned to paint. He sold his paintings throughout the U.S., with some sold in Scotland and Japan. He had a gift for enjoying life. His hobbies included amateur radio, hiking, camping, fishing, and kayaking.

Roy is survived by his sister Laura Thompson and his brother-in-law Chris Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Wright, his stepfather James Wright, and his father George Mobley.

A funeral service will be held at 12PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Immanuel Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10AM. Bro. Frank Wilder will officiate. Burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery. Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.

The family extends their gratitude to Sunshine Healthcare in Pontotoc and the NMMC Hospice Floor in Tupelo for the compassionate care given to their loved one.

Pallbearers are William Earl Jaggers, Charlie Overby, Mitchell Pound, Don Russell, Steve Russell, and Bill Rutledge.
