ALBERT J. BUFFINGER
SCIOTOVILLE-Albert J. Buffinger, 91, of Sciotoville, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on January 28, 1925 in West Portsmouth, he was a son of the late William and Dorothy Cottle Buffinger and was owner and appraiser of Crossroads Realty.
Al attended Christ United Methodist Church and was a supervisor for the former Williams Manufacturing Company and former treasurer of the Board of Realtors. There wasn't anything he couldn't build and if he became puzzled, he obtained additional knowledge from "how to" books.
Being a proud American, he enlisted in the Army during World War II when he was just eighteen and participated in the Invasion of Normandy and battles in Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe and the Adrennes. Al received five bronze stars and, after being wounded in Germany, received the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Hanes Buffinger, a daughter, Debbie Buffinger of Wheelersburg; two sons, Phillip (Tammy) Buffinger of Lucasville and Albert J. (Cindy) Buffinger of Sciotoville; four grandchildren, Laura (John) Simcoe, Mary Ann (Keith) Boggs, Jeff Buffinger and Dustin Buffinger; and three great-grandchildren, Emma-Leigh Simcoe, Taylor Boggs and Parker Simcoe.
Al was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Pearl and Donald Buffinger and two sisters, Hazel Buffinger and Mary Jane Wirth.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 1st, at Wheelersburg Cemetery with Pastor John Richards officiating. Military honors will be by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. The family will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE after 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Memorial gifts may be made to the East High School Band.
