Dorothy Doss Obituary


DOROTHY LOUISE DOSS, 96, of Lucasville, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at her daughter's home in Wheelersburg.
She was born February 3, 1929 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Everett Fred Conkel and Madge Childers Conkel. Dorothy was a 1946 Valley High School graduate and was proud of the years she worked at Kresge's in Columbus. She also worked at Selby Shoe Factory and Williams Shoe Factory in Portsmouth, and was a homemaker.
Dorothy was a loyal member of Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church and loved flowers, gardening, and her chickens. She also loved babysitting her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Robert "Jack" Doss, on May 14, 2003; an infant son, James Herbert Doss; four brothers, Freddie Everett Conkel, Ralph Harrison Conkel, Jimmy Rogers Conkel, and Michael Harvey Conkel; and four sisters, Helen Irene Tomilson, Geraldine Joyce McKenzie, Judy Ann Chapman, and JoAnn Conkel.
Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Fred Everett Doss of Lucasville, Jackie Lee (Kim) Doss of Scioto Furnace, and Gary Richard (Karen) Doss of Minford; her daughters, Rachael Dorothy (Chester) Britton of Village Mills, Texas, Mary Lou Adkins, Melinda Ruth (Billy) Manbeavers of Lucasville, and Rebecca Ann (Mark) Schultz of Wheelersburg; a brother, Leo Branson Conkel; a sister, Marilyn Adkins; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Aaron Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2025 at the funeral home, and an hour before the funeral on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
