William Marshall "Bill" Bright

WILLIAM "BILL" MARSHALL BRIGHT, 95, of Springfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at Forest Glen. Bill was born March 6th, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio the son of Henry L. and Ruby Bright.
Bill graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1948. Soon after graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country until 1952. In 1953, Bill began his long career as a security guard at the Goodyear Atomic Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Known as the "go-to" person for any question, Bill had an impressive memory for every employee's badge number a skill he delighted in sharing years later when meeting former coworkers in the community. He retired in 1988 after 35 years of dedicated service.
In March 1954, Bill married the love of his life, Nancy James, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith while raising their four children in Portsmouth. In 2012, they moved to Springfield to be closer to family.
Bill was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and writing authoring two books of his own. A gifted singer, he shared his voice in church, at weddings, and during funerals. Above all, Bill loved to tell the story of Jesus. His faith guided every aspect of his life. He was raised in Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, where he also raised his family and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and superintendent. Later, became a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church and attended Crossroad Baptist Church in Springfield. Bill could often be found proudly wearing his trademark "I Love Jesus" hat.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Nancy Bright; his children: Sarah Jane Green (Edwin), Susan Carol "Susie" Collins (Don), Ruth Ellen Steinebrunner (Douglas) and William David Bright; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: George Bright, John Bright and Jenny Combs.
A memorial service was held Friday.
