Missing you David

March 13, 2013

I miss you every day my son. You were a remarkable person and my love for you will be eternal. Even though you are not physically here, your spirit is here in everything I do and see. Almost every day I go by the home where you lived and it reminds me of how much I apprecuiated the gift of your 31 years of life. We all miss you dearly. Love, Dad

June 19, 2008

David, it has been two years since that day when all our lives were changed by your untimely passing. Much has happened in so many areas of all of our lives and we all miss you more than words can ever say. My heart is very heavy when I think of all that was still to be for you and what we have not been able to do together as a result of your life ending at such a young age. I know that you would want me to go on and do the best that I can to have a good life without you being here. Even though that is difficult at times, it is what I must do. I am fortunate that I have your brothers and sister as well as my grandchildren to love and be loved by. They all miss you very much and we all have to go on and remember the good times, the love we shared and the great memories we had in those 31 years! We will soon be celebrating your life in the Dave Wolfe Memorial Bike ride on June 29th and spend that day doing something that you loved and would have enjoyed doing with us. I know you will be watching that from above and you will be there in all our hearts, minds and in your spirit. I will always miss and love you David. You were a wonderful, great and loving son. I will one day be with you again at the end of the race.

Love, Dad

I knew Dave when he used to live in Cayman Islands. He was a friend and often came to our apartment to visit with Jim. I always thought him to be handsome, funny, a skilled worker, competitive and athletic. I attended his beautiful wedding and remember thinking that he had a wonderful life ahead of him.
I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a great guy and will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those he left behind.

- David Wolfe Memorial Scholarship - Update - There is now enough in the fund to award a Scholarship to a deserving recipeint:

As many of you know, David was well known around the Midwest as a fierce competitor and positive ambassador for the sport of cycling. In Dave’s memory, a Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in order to promote competitive cycling in the Midwest. The opportunity this scholarship provides will reflect Dave’s enthusiasm and commitment toward coaching and mentoring young and gifted cyclists. The worthy scholarship recipient will be given the opportunity of a lifetime of attending the John Howard School of Champions for one week during November or December in Encinitas, California. This is the same school that David attended, and it will include a one-on-one session taught by three time Olympian, 18 time National Champion and Hall of Famer, John Howard. It will also include personal performance coaching sessions, and actual training rides with top amateur and professional riders in this hot bed of cycling activity. David was a true inspiration to many young riders and athletes and he would be gratified to know that the Scholarship fund will inspire others to excellence and keep his memory and accomplishments alive in our hearts and minds.

Sincerely, From the Family of David R. Wolfe

Jeff Wolfe told me I was one of David's early athletic motivators. I'm glad for this, and foundly recall our many bike rides together here in San Diego. David helped Lisa and I with our house and I helped him with his training. My condolences run deep. Although I wish not to be having a discussion about his memorial fund, it pleases me that something good will emerge from the tragedy of his passing. To the worthy young athlete who receives this award, dare yourself to be the best you can be with his energy. You will be missed my friend.

This is an update on the David Wolfe Memorial Scholarship fund. As many of you may already know, in lieu of flowers, we created the option of contributing to the David Wolfe Memorial Scholarship Fund that will enable a gifted, young bike rider to attend the John Howard School of Champions that David once attended. John Howard was initially an inspiration to David and later became a very close friend. Likewise, David was also a true inspiration to many young riders and athletes and he would be gratified to know that the Scholarship fund is well on the way already. This Scholarship fund will be used to provide the opportunity to train and learn at the highest level with three time Olympian and World Champion, John Howard at the School of Champions in Encinitas, California. It was this same school that David first attended upon his graduation from college as a graduation gift. This school and the association with John Howard helped launch David on his professional cycling career. David is dearly missed by all who knew him and were inspired by him. This Memorial Scholarship will inspire others to excellence and keep the memory of David and his accomplishments alive in our hearts and minds. Thus far we have Raised $2,095 and the list of those making contributions follows:

Marie & Raleigh Plesko, John & Linnea Forchetti, Robert & Joyce Gaylord, Robert J. Girot, Diane Allison, Gerald & Emilie Scott, Alan Nelson, David Ahner, Terry Barth , Dennis & Bea Hackett, Gerald & Mary Skrabala, The Employees at Lake Federal Bank, William & Susan Cunningham, Mark & Wendy Schlichting, Sam Langley, Shawna & Stephen Burcham, Renee Walker, Stephen P. & Lorri L. Davenport, Joyce & Dean Recktenwall, Laura Dodds, Nathan & Kathryn Karras , Judith James, Peter Wesson, Raul Pinon, Lydia & Al Pisarski, James Nickerson, Tom & Barb Wheele, Anonomous$100.00 cash gift and Jeffrey Wolfe Sr.

Thank You Again for the generosity of all these people who knew and loved David.

David was a very impressive person, and I was shocked to get the news of his passing.

We were never close friends, but I seemed to bump into him quite often in Bloomington or Chesterton, and always enjoyed spending time with him.

I'm very sad that David is no longer with us, but I'm honored and feel blessed to have known him.

My deepest sympathies to Kathy, Marc, Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe, Kenny, Kim, and all family and friends.

David will be greatly missed.

Hope to see you soon Kathy.

In the earlier years, Dave and his family were almost an extension of our family. Each of the "Walker kids" were great friends with each of the "Wolfe kids". I was unable to attend the service but wanted the entire family to know that you have been in my heart each and everyday since I heard the news. I will continue to pray for your strength and healing.

I have known David's father since childhood but, unfortunately, I have never met any of Jeff's children. Yet, it feels like we have met due to the many photos and stories of pride and love that Jeff has shared about his children and grandchildren. This recent story is especially sad. One that is every parent's nightmare. From all accounts, David was an exceptional son, brother, uncle and husband as well as a loyal friend to many. My most sincere condolences to David's wife, to all the Wolfe family members as well to any and all other family members. God bless.

I was shocked to hear this news. I saw Dave last year at the hilly 100, when he stopped by our sales booth. He was a team member on 2 of the GT racing teams we had going in the 90's when he was in school at IU. He will be missed. I guess God needed a new rider for his team.. God bless you all. Time heals all wounds but this will be tough to over come..
