EVA M. OWEN
Eva M. Owen, 93 of Valparaiso passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was born on June 10, 1916 in Minier, IL to William and Amelia (Birky) Martin. Eva was a member of Hopewell Mennonite Church, Kouts. "The Candy Lady," loved her family and prayed daily, for each one by name, for them to walk with Jesus. She always treated them with peanut pudding and German potato salad at the summer picnics ending with her specialty of yummy homemade candies. On January 28, 1936 in Kouts, Eva married Ray D. Owen who preceded her in death in 2000. She is survived by 4 children, Beverly (Ron) Gibson of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Diane (Bill) Costas of Valparaiso, Larry (Mary) Owen of LaPorte, and Terry (Kay) Owen of Valparaiso; 16 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Lila Miller of Goshen and Wilma Reinke of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, 2 brothers, Lester and Omar Martin; and 2 sisters, Mary Baughman and Verna Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM, Hopewell Mennonite Church, 805 N. Main St, Kouts with Pastor Joel Short officiating. Private family Graveside Services will take place at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Gide on International, P.O.
