Harry Groebner Obituary

Groebner, Harry J. Age 94, of Hobart, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 in his residence at the Brentwood Assisted Living Center. Harry was born May 4, 1920 in New Ulm, Minnesota to the late Otto and Hulda (Reis) Groebner. Harry was a Heavy Equipment Operator retiring from Local Union #150 Operating Engineers. He was also the former owner of Harry's TV Repair in Miller. Harry was a member of the Chapel of the Dunes and loved wood working for church Bazaars. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and member of Miller American Legion Post #279. Harry also loved playing his Concertina and dancing Polkas. Harry is survived by his 6 children, Kathleen (Daris) Raico of Portage, Karen (Richard) Fannin of Merrillville, David (Jennifer) Groebner of Lowell, James (Julie) Groebner of Portage, Jerri (Kevin) Toth of Cedar Lake and Janet (Thomas) Schierlinger; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Lorraine (Harold) Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 36 years, Patricia (nee Thornton); one brother, Ernest Groebner; one sister, Laura Mowry; and special friend, Irene Dreher. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 at 7:00p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. James Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation will be Friday, August 21 from 2:00-7:00p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana. Harry's family wish to extend their special gratitude to all the staff at Brentwood Assisted Living Center for the wonderful care that he received while there. Harry sure appears to have been one awesome human being! And I'm sure he and MY father - who played a "mean accordion", and polka in his lifetime - are serenading Heaven with one serious dance tune!
