Herbert Wallace Benton "Flip" was born February 2, 1954. He attended Froebel High & Horace Mann High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. He participated in the US Special Olympics for disabled veterans. Herbert is preceded by death by his loving wife Carolyn Benton, father Herbert (Betty) Benton, grandparents Frank & Evelyn Barber, Leanna Hodge, Datie Benton, Ruben and Mattie Pillow, daughter Ife Simmons, son Jerrod Benton, favorite uncle Frank Barber Jr., Herbert departed this life September 4, 2021. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: Loving mother Mildren McClinon of Gary, IN; Children James (Katrina) Benton of Milwaukee, WI, Nicole Benton of Gary, IN, Cory Benton of Anderson, IN, Anthony Milton of Gary, IN, Chiquitta Lathan of Chicago, IL, Varsheen Smith of Beaufort, SC; 5 sisters LaVeeda Benton, Venita (Lonnie) Williams, Carmelita (Frank) Nelson, Denise Benton, Devona (Frank) Benton all of Chicago, IL; loved like a brother Howard Tinsdale; 28 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; Special friends Zolly, special nieces LaTasha Benton (Fatza) and granddaughter Candance Benton. Visitation Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. all services at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 w. 11th Ave. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
