John Dihenes Obituary

JOHN JOSEPH DIHENES Portage, Indiana John Joseph Dihenes, age 83, a longtime resident of Portage, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009. He was born on August 29, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the son of Paul and Anna Dihenes. John proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was married to Shirley Quinn on April 29, 1949, in Chicago. John worked as the Chief Boiler Operator for Union Carbide. He was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, was active with the American Legion Post #260, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as the first president of the Portage Little League. John enjoyed traveling, painting, woodworking, gardening, and being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. John is survived by his loving family: son, Patrick (Eleanor) Dihenes, Valparaiso; daughter, Sharon (Bill) Wishnevski, Valparaiso; and grandchildren, Michael Dihenes, Christina Dihenes, Paul Dihenes, Jennifer (Tim) Yokovich, and Shaun (Amber) Wishnevski; great grandchildren, Karalyn, Kristen, and Tim Yokovich; and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded by his parents, his wife, Shirley Dihenes, and son, John Joseph Dihenes, Jr. A visitation for John Dihenes will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A morning visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 directly at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage with a Mass of Christian Burial being offered at 11:00 a.m., with Father David Kime, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in John's memory may be made to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church or to the V.N.A. Hospice.
