Johnnie Taylor Obituary

Johnnie M (Neal) Taylor, was born to Minnie and Edward Neal in Arkadelphia, Arkansas November 20, 1941. She was educated through Gary community schools, graduating from Roosevelt high school. She went on to further her career at Commonwealth business college. Johnnie worked at Indiana University, retiring with over 30 years of service as a manager of the library. Johnnie loved being around family and friends! One of her greatest joys was raising her grandson Kameron. When Mario was born she took up the torch again and looked forward to waking up to them each day. Cooking for everyone who came to the house was a way for her to show her love. If you needed advice she was the person to help you figure it out in her very direct way but delivered with kindness. No matter the occasion you could look around and she would be there. Her presence will be greatly missed. Johnnie exchanged time for eternity on February 6, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Minnie and Edward Neal. Husband Willie (Billy) Taylor. Son Alvern Allison, Brothers Elmorece (Elmo), Lewis (Lou), and James Neal. Sister in Law Wanda Gunn. Johnnie is survived by her children Elizabeth (Tim) Congress, George Taylor, Abram (Crystal) Taylor, Wanda (Mario) Taylor. Grandchildren Ashley, George, Anthony, Ryan, Milante, Kameron, and Mario. Brother in Law Chester Taylor, Ray (Fran) Taylor, and James Gunn. Sister in law Renee Neal. Best Friend Lolita Walker. Goddaughter Iyana Butler. A host of Loving Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephew, cousins and friends. Visitation Monday February 15, 2021 9:00 a.m-11:00 a.m Funeral 11:00 a.m. all services at Christian Valley M.B. Church 1910 Adams St. Gary, IN. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery Gary, IN. Services entrusted to Powell-Coleman Funeral Home.

Johnnie was like an aunt to me. Her son Alvern was like my little brother when we were growing up. When I became an adult, Johnnie was there with a warm heart, friendly smile, and jokes. She had been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I miss her. Her departure left a space in my heart. I am so lucky to have shared part of my life with her.

I am so sad to see that Johnnie past. She was important part of my childhood. I grew up with her son Alvirn and had a good relationship with Billy. I was unaware of her passing. She will be missed. I loved her like an Aunt, although I was not in her life the past few years. After her son's death she graced us with attendance at my daughters wedding. Johnnie was a wonderful and good person. I hope she knew that I loved her.
