LEO J. JOINT, JR.

Leo J. Joint, Jr., 85, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010. He was born August 24, 1924 in Gary, IN to Leo Joseph and Clara (Seabold) Joint, Sr. Mr. Joint was a World War II Veteran, serving as a cryptographer with the U.S. Army. A long-time educator, he served as principal in several schools in the Elkhart area, including Middlebury, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Pinewood, before moving to Valparaiso in 1971 where he served as principal of Memorial Elementary and as Director of Elementary Education. He retired in 1993. Leo was a member of First United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Kappa; a member and past-president of Valparaiso Rotary Club, past-president of the Elkhart Lions Club, and past-president of the Indiana Association of Elementary School Principals. On October 23, 1945 in Gary, he married Dolores LeGacy, who survives, along with two children, Lynda (Richard) Vance of Carmel and Leo R. (Kathy) Joint of Indianapolis; four granddaughters, Lindsay, Megan, Courtney, and Ashley; two great-granddaughters, Maille and Lillian; and one expected great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Purcell and Gloria Scott. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. David Byrum officiating with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso. Mrs. Joint, I knew Leo from Rotary and my many walks down Linden. Always smiling, so friendly and just a wonderful person. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

What a wonderful man! He was loved by so many and will be missed terribly! He was a one in a million principal that we were so lucky to have..they don't make them like that anymore! Rest in peace Mr. Joint and God's Blessings to the family!

We were sorry to read of Leo Sr's Death in the Elkhart Truth. We remember him smiling-as a warm, kind, neighbor on Manor Ave. Wow, it's been almost 40 years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
