Marie Blakemore graduated from Stratton High School in 1953. After graduation, Marie followed her sister to Gary, Indiana. It was there that she married Briggs Blakemore Jr. This union was blessed with five children: Marilyn, Karen 'Honeybee', Briggs III, Lori Ann, and Nicole 'Nikki'. Marie was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dwight Gardner. She was a member of the Choir and served as a member of the Mother Board. Marie always kept her faith in the Lord and served her church family in many capacities. But her focus was praising Him with her voice. She loved to sing. No matter who called, there was not an invitation that she did not accept. She would always accept an invitation to sing and praise the name of the Lord. We, as children would ask, "Why do you always sing when people ask you to?" She told us, "The Lord gave me this voice and if I don't use it, he might take it away." She sang the praises of the Lord until her hearing started to fail. Marie was employed with Gary Public School System until her retirement. After retirement, Marie loved to travel and loved being on the go. Marie loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When her children were growing up, her home was a home to every kid in the neighborhood and all her children's friends. As they all grew up to become adults, they would all still stop by to see how she was doing. She loved watching basketball and football and enjoyed going to the "Chicago Bulls" games. On January 1, 2021, the Lord decided that her songs of praise and work on this earth were complete. He called for her to be the lead singer in His heavenly choir. Marie is preceded in death by Briggs Blakemore Jr.; both parents: William and Christine Clark; brothers: William and Arthur Clark; sister, Louella Brown and daughter, Nicole Lynn. Marie leaves to cherish her memory children: Marilyn (Kenneth), Karen, Briggs (Angela) and Lori Ann (Ernest Sr.); grandchildren: Shondale, Romel, Justin, Jason, Lorenea, Brandi, Brittany, Donte', Ernest Jr. and Angel; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Cornelius Clark; brother-in-law, Maurice (Shirley)Blakemore; sisters-in-law: Ruby Clark, Mary Scott and Katie Blakemore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the children and entire family of Mrs. Blakemore. I met her when we were both members of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. I was around 13 years old and loved to hear Mrs. Blakemore sing!!! She would sing the same solo everytime..."I Must Tell Jesus". She would sing until the tears were running down her face and everyone in the Church's face! She had a powerful anointing and at the age of 13 she became a friend of mine. I loved watching her each Sunday in her beautiful clothes, her naturally curly hair and she would be dressed to the 9's. When I was called into Ministry some 20 years ago, at my first Sermon I asked Mrs. Blakemore to come and sing "I Must Tell Jesus". She came and sang and I felt so Blessed. Now, she can tell Jesus all about her struggles Face to Face!!! I know that she and my Mom are in that Heavenly Choir wearing that Soprano Section out!! Lord, grant this family Peace and allow their hearts to be turned more and more towards You. Truly, their hearts must be Heavy, but You are a burden bearing God. One Who Loves and Cares for Your children. May Your Love and Strength saturate each of them today. In Jesus Name, Amen.
