Dear Debbie, Bill & Jordan,
Your loss is unimaginable. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. Please let us to be there for you whenever you are in need of comfort.
I am not one to write poetry, but your loss was my inspiration to write this poem in memory of Nate.
Where Do We Go
Where do we go after the show,
Of sympathy and sorrow expressed?
His days cut short to press full court,
A young boy’s life now lay to rest.
We want to share just how unfair
His budding future nev’r to know.
He was sixteen, any girl’s dream-
A broad smile he quickly would show.
Parents worry their son’s in a flurry;
Then his school gave him a mission.
He excelled in class he accepted the task,
Headed in the right direction.
Being a parent, what’s inherent
Is the endless desire to balance:
The love we feel, the rules we deal-
Just so our kids get the best chance.
Fate takes its claim without any shame;
We have no answers in the end.
Friends over the years and family shed tears
For what we cannot comprehend.
His parents alone, we return home
To cherish our children so dear.
Their house is void of any noise;
Now faced with the ultimate fear.
His brother tries concealing his cries,
Letting his heart carry the weight.
He is aware that his parents care,
And they know he also lost Nate.
Their loss so deep, they hope for sleep
As the coming days are endless.
As spectators we have our chores;
We have our routines to address.
Only they will know how real the blow
To lose a teenage child so soon.
Friends may draw near in hopes of cheer,
But repeated thoughts play the same tune.
Questions repeated, thoughts are heated;
The “what if’s” and “should have’s” confessed.
My prayer to you (for my comfort, too)
That you know God’s love is endless.
The grief too real which you must feel!
As friends, our sadness we conveyed.
True faith will mend but in the end,
Your son’s mem’ry will never fade.
Where do we go after the show,
Of sympathy and sorrow expressed?
His parents go to meet their foe,
Emotions no longer suppressed.
.

Dear Putz Family,
My daughter was a classmate of Nate's for only a short few months but she developed a friendship with him that brought her a lot of joy. I visited her at LaLumiere a number of times and interected with Nate on several occasions. He seemed like such a fun loving energetic young man. When Christina was sick he made her soup. They both had dish duty one night when I was there for dinner and he had Christina and the rest of the kitchen crew laughing and goofing around with his antics. We have prayed for your family daily since we received the tragic news - our hearts go out to you and we pray God will bring you peace.

I didn't know Nate for long but for the time that I did he changed my life. He always had something nice to say and I can barely recall seeing him in a bad mood. I cannot think of a single person who disliked Nate, but I doubt the people who did (if any) knew him very well. I don't know what I will remember most about him whether it will be his charasmatic comments or greetings; his smile that was as bright as a star; the way he told people that I was 'the man'; or the way he rapped 'Ice Ice Baby' whether in spanish class, in the talent show at school, or on the bus-ride back from a basketball game. Nate is one of the few truly unforgettable people that have graced this earth and he somehow touched the life of everyone he met.
