I'm so sorry to hear about Rob's passing. I haven't seen Rob in over 20 years, when we were both freshmen at Indiana State together. We just kind of fell out of touch and went our seperate ways. Thing is, I'm sitting here in my office some 21 years later near tears...he was a great guy. We spent many a late night in Cromwell Hall listening to the "Big Chill" soundtrack, while complaining about our lack of female companionship and the general foul odor of Terre Haute, Indiana. From accidentally setting a fire in the dorm laundry room to riding out a tornado in the local Hardy's, there are so many found memories I have of that year I spent confined with Rob in "the Haute". When I read about the trademark smile, I knew it was the same Rob Hardesty I'd known "back in the day". He was always a genuine, fun-loving guy, who, obviously went on to make a very big impact in his chosen field. I only wish I had stayed in better contact with him over the years. You have my deepest sympathies and my thoughts are with your entire family.

In all my years of law enforcement, I have never heard one person say a bad thing about Rob. He was the perfect police officer. Whether it was how he wore his uniform, kept his car clean, wrote his reports, or how he delt with the public, he had integrity that we should all strive for. He always had a smile on his face and never said a bad word about anyone. Even though their time was cut short, Toni and the girls were lucky to have such a good man in thier lives. They should know that he was the most respected man in Law Enforcement and take solace in that. God Bless.

My deepest sympathies go out to Rob's family and friends, as well as his PCSP and FBI 'families.' Rob was a model law enforcement officer, who made a difference in so many people's lives. I hadn't seen Rob in a couple of years, but whenever our paths would cross we would reminisce about our high school days and our police careers. I know Rob died doing what he loved. My prayers are with his family and friends.

I would like to express to Rob's family how sorry I am to hear of their loss. I met Rob shortly after he was assigned to the FBI Office in Normal. We had the opportunity to work on a few cases together. He was a huge asset to have around!! The lines of communication between the local and federal levels were never better than they were after his arrival. He was what every officer should look to as a role model.

I never saw Rob without a smile and he cracked me up telling stories about his little girls and his dog. I'll never forget him.

I only met Rob a month ago, when he spoke at a dinner presentation for the CPCU Society in Bloomington; however, he was the type of person you meet and never forget. He took extra time after the dinner to speak with many of us that had further questions. I am keeping his wife and children in my thoughts and prayers as they go through this extremely difficult time.
