Mother Holmes of Gary, IN transitioned to be with the Lord on August 14, 2016. Born on April 17 in Opelika, Al. She retired from Simmons's Mattress Co., a member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the mother's board, booster for the male chorus. Mother Holmes was a facilitator and the speaking voice of the Rev. Milton Joiner spiritual hour on radio station WWCA. A graduate of Roosevelt High School class of 1947. Mother Holmes is preceded in death by father and mother Rev. Milton and Bessie Joiner, husband Paul Holmes, son Lonnie Holmes, grandson Ronald Davis Jr.,brothers Hayward, Robert, Alonzo, Royal and Matthew. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Arleen Redmond (Las Vegas, NV). Marva Holmes (Houston, Tx), Sharon Miles ( Amory, MS.) sons Al Holmes (Gary, IN), James, Johnnie Holmes(Detroit, MI), sister's Bessie Ballard (Gary, IN), Eleanor Gourdine (Irvington, NJ.) brother Ronald Joiner (Gary, IN.), 9 grandchildren,8 great grandchildren, special grandson Christopher Holmes and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation is Monday August 22, 2016 from 1:00 pm-7:00 pm at Powell-Coleman Funeral Home Avenue Gary, IN. Visitation on Tuesday August 23, 2016 from 9:00am until 10:45am service is 11:00am at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 1545 Waite St. Gary, IN. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park Hobart, IN.

You've always been there for me and kept me abreast on what's going on in the family no matter how far I traveled. I will always love and cherish the legacy you given me. Lonnie I obviously never met your mother, but I've had the pleasure off knowing you. And based on the son that she raised I can clearly tell what kind of person she must have been.
