William Henry Adams, Jr. affectionately known as "Gordon Keith" and "Sonny" (age 81) was born on August 12, 1939 to the late Minnie Lee (Addison) Adams and William Henry Adams, Sr. in West Point, MS and departed this life for eternal rest on November 17, 2020. In addition to his parents Gordon was preceded in death by his son Victor Adams, sisters, Alma (Earl) Hanks, Helen (Will) Holland, and Alice Rose Gibson. Gordon was raised in East Chicago, IN and graduated from E.C. Washington High School. Gordon attended Indiana University NW where he studied accounting, and he proudly served in the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, Gordon relocated to Gary, IN and began his career at LTV (U.S. Steel) where he was a dedicated and loyal employee until his retirement. He was a mentor to many, a Pioneer, Triumphant Leader, Activist, Musician, Radio Personality, Co-Founder of Steeltown Records (1966), and a Music Producer who wrote, produced, and contributed to many projects. Gordon's most notable musical contribution is having discovered Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five, signing them to a management and recording contract in 1967 and producing their first single "Big Boy" released in 1968. Gordon has been recognized on various national platforms for his sincere passion for music and for launching Michael Jackson's successful career. Gordon was heavily involved in community outreach focused on saving families and efforts to rid the city of Gary of crime and violence; he earned a reputation as "The Humble Servant" or "Servant". Gordon was vocal about racial inequities and was a critical figure during the civil rights movement. Gordon was loved and well respected and never met a stranger; he had a love for God and even during his last months he imparted his love of God to his caregivers. Over the years Gordon attended and was a member of several committees, boards, non-profit organizations, and Churches; prior to his illness and passing he was a member of Spirit of God in Gary, IN. My condolences Rondell, and to your brothers and family. I will treasure the times spent with your dad, going to events, catching all the black movies that hit the theater, listening to him talk on the radio, but most of all I will miss the those strong debates between your dad and I. Most of the time neither of us won but we enjoyed trying. What was so great about it was after it was over we could still laugh and talk the next day. He truly gave everyday all he had to give and that is what made him the remarkable headstrong man he was. He was a great friend who I could always call on when I ran into a brick wall. Again my condolences to you and the entire family. Know the Lord will always be with you through the hard times. Labrada

Mr. Keith was like a dad to many of the close friends' of his son, Rondell. I spent many nights in his home, recording in his attic with Rondell. I had the privilege of spending quite a bit of time in conversation with him about spirituality, the industry and his memories of my father who sang on the Chess Records Label in the 50's. I laugh when I think of how he'd greet me when I came inside the house...."Hey uh, Tommy? You got a million dollars I can have?" In which I replied, "Not yet, big bruh...But, it's coming!" He'd say, "Well uh...ok then...What's the plan?" Sometimes, we would be really loud up in the attic and he'd come to the bottom of the stairs, open the door and say...."Hey Ron? In the name of God would you turn down that speaker?" LOL.....However, he seemed happy knowing that we were there, safe in the attic being productive as opposed to being out in the streets of Gary getting into trouble! So he let us rock on!
He was ALWAYS encouraging, loving and nurturing, ESPECIALLY TO HIS SON, RONDELL, who dedicated the majority of his life to date being with his father who he respected so so much.
He will be sorely missed!

First and foremost, I would like to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to the entire family of Mr. William Adams a.k.a. The Honorable Gordon Keith / A Humble Servant of GOD. May The Lord Comfort you all in this time of grief. GOD BLESS YOU ALL .

I met Brother Gordon Kieth over 50 years ago in Gary, Indiana during my musical roots as a local guitarist. We became good Friends. He always encouraged me and shared with me professional insight about the music industry. During that time, he was the driving force behind his own independent record label, "Steeltown Records." He was always encouraging, positive and focused and willing to help anyone in need. Music production and the business of music was his #1 thing. He worked closely with numerous local artists in the greater Chicagoland region helping them to development their professional musical xcareers. Though he was often confronted with the negatives of the musical industry, he never let that stop him from pushing forward. He is undoubtedly a music industry legend. May he Rest Peacefully in Heaven.
