Cheryl Skutley Obituary

Skutley, Cheryl M.

Cheryl Skutley, age 87 of Appleton, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side on Friday, November 20, 2015. She had a short battle with cancer. Cheryl was born in Beloit on January 17, 1928, daughter of the late Floyd and Myrtle (Norder) Furman. She grew up in Beloit, and as a young woman worked in the family business, Beloit Dye Works. She enjoyed summers at Lake Delavan with her family. On September 11, 1948, she married Pete Skutley. Shortly after that time, they moved to Chicago where Pete attended art school. The family relocated to Appleton in 1963, and together Cheryl and Pete raised four children and shared thirty-five years together prior to his unexpected death in 1983. Cheryl enjoyed skiing, knitting, bowling, and reading, but her most treasured time was spent at the family get-a-way in northern Wisconsin.

Cheryl is survived by four loving children: Sally Moser of Illinois; Tom (Cathy) Skutley of Colorado; Sue Skutley of Madison; and Julie (Tom) Gaffney of Kimberly; seven grandchildren: Shannon (Amilio) Serrato, Todd (Christina) Moser, Tara (Tyler) Inge, Shelly (Pat) Marcuk, Jamie (Vince) Duckert, Maghan (Mike) LeBlanc, and Mike (Michelle) Gaffney; thirteen great-grandchildren: Taylor, Claire, Mila, Vaughn, Calvin, Mason, Nora, Parker, Drew, Joey, Lucas, Thomas, and Charlie. There are also three nieces and a nephew: Polly, Jay, Anne, and Leah; and a sister-in-law: Lois Anderson. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, a son-in-law Tom Moser, a brother Art Furman, and a brother-in-law Boyd Anderson.

In keeping with Cheryl's wishes, there will be no service held at this time. The family plans to gather at Cheryl's eternal quiet place up north for a private service in the spring. Also, rather than sending flowers or other expressions of sympathy, please remember Cheryl's generous style, and perform an act of kindness for a friend, family member, or someone in need in her honor.

That smile!!! I met Cheryl when she was volunteering for AMC front desk! She was an amazing lady who always was ready to take on that next errand, or escort someone to where they needed to go!
My deepest sympathies to Cheryl's family!
