John Dresang Obituary

Dresang, John Ambrose

John passed away peacefully on July 2nd 2015, at home in Folsom, California, at the age of 93.

John was born on December 7, 1921, to John Andrew and Ella (Rickert) Dresang. John grew up in Mackville and lived most of his life in Appleton. He spent the last 16-1/2 years living with his daughter and son-in-law, Sharleen and Robert Wenning in Folsom, California.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Lillian (Kuba). They shared a joy of traveling by car throughout the US. They eventually traveled to Hawaii, to which they returned many times.

John was the youngest of eight children. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Jean Vosen, Ellen Peckham, Loretta Toepfer, Mildred Zellmer Spreutels, Aurelia Endter, Magdalene Loos, and one brother, Willard Dresang.

John graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. He went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Seaman 1st Class from 1942 through 1945. He then started working for the US Postal Service, in Appleton as a letter carrier. He worked for the Post Office branch 822 for 34 years, first delivering mail on foot, and eventually delivering by truck. He retired from the Post Office in 1979. During this period he also worked for the Appleton Post Crescent distributing bulk loads of newspapers by truck.

John remained an avid Packer fan and Badger football and Basketball fan while living in California. One of his happiest football days was attending the 1999 Rose Bowl watching the Badgers beat UCLA. He also enjoyed polka music and loved to listen to the bands from the Midwest on the televised polka shows.

John is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Paul Bonick of Orangevale, California; and Sharleen and Robert Wenning of Folsom, California. He is also survived by two grandsons, Lucas Bonick of Nara, Japan; Jacob Bonick of Torrance, California; and two granddaughters and their husbands, Gwen and Brian Allen of Penryn, California; and Christy and Chris Nosti of San Luis Obispo, California.

John will be remembered by all as a kind wonderful gentle man. He truly touched the hearts of all who knew him.

A service will be held on October 16th, 2015, at Saint Pius Church, 500 W Marquette Street Appleton. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon 12:30 p.m. for family, friends and relatives at the Saint Pius New Fellowship Hall.

To all our fellow Dresangs,
Sorry to hear at such a late date about our Uncle John. I hope only to live a life half as full as his. I am certain it was full with the joy of his family, daughters and their children and great grand children.

My condolences and deepest sympathies to Shar, Bob and the entire family. While it has been decades back in Wisconsin since we last spoke Shar, I was saddened to read of your loss no less. It sounds like your father led a long, wonderful life loving and being loved by many. Cherish the memories you were able to share with him these past 16 years as I am sure he did.

God Bless,
Bruce Porlier

We will miss Uncle John... his big smile, the hugs, the fish fries, and the pictures we took during the annual visits he used to make to Appleton. Our most sincere sympathy to his daughters and their families; please know you are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Sincerely,
