Larry Peterson Obituary

Larry Peterson, 73, of Neenah, WI, passed away on August 3, 2015 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, WI, from PMA-Progressive Muscular Atrophy; a rare lower motor neuron disease in the ALS family. Born in Viroqua, WI to Lawrence and Lydia (Johnson) Peterson, he lived most of his life in the Fox Valley area. Larry was happily married to the love of his life, Karen (Freier) Peterson, for 42 years, until she passed away in 2004.

Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, and easy going, kind-spirited man. He was employed at Rich Products (Elm Tree Bakery) in Appleton for 43 years. He enjoyed sports, and especially loved to golf and bowl. He played on many golf, bowling, and softball leagues. He bowled and golfed to the end, until he could no longer hold a bowling ball or swing a club. Larry has the second most bowled games in the Fox Cities USBC Bowling Association; 8,100 games in his 52 years of bowling in the FCBA. He was recently nominated to be inducted into the FCBA Hall of Fame. On his 50th birthday, he golfed 36 holes (without a cart), and pitched a softball game that night. He loved sports and enjoyed watching the Brewers, Badger, Bucks, and Packer games.

Those Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory include his three children: Son, Lance Peterson, San Francisco, CA; Daughter, Liana & (Marty) Brogaard, Kewaskum, WI; and daughter, Jodi Renee & (Lee) DeLeeuw, Portland, OR. Two grandchildren: Zack Brogaard, Kewaskum, WI, and Ahnalya DeLeeuw, Portland, OR; his sister, Joan (Milford) Herreid, of Neenah, WI. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Warner (LaCrosse) and brother, Roger Peterson (Viroqua).

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the caring staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice, for their loving care and support for our father these past months, and to the many friends and family who visited.

A memorial to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Sunday, August 30th, at Winagamie Golf Course in Neenah, at 1 p.m., with lunch following. Contact the clubhouse for available tee times before and after the memorial if interested in golfing. Winagamie Golf Course, # 920/757-5453 - 3501 Winnegamie Dr., Neenah, WI

Where do I start? I worked with Larry for 30 yrs. I golfed, bowled, drank and laughed with him. "Did I ever tell you how Al was responsible for my first 300 game?" That was just one of the stories he used to tell, over and over and over... lol. I'll miss you, Buddy. Help me keep my ball in the fairway and save me a spot on your roster up there.

My first recollection of Uncle Larry was when he and Karen were first dating. She was excited and busy getting ready for him to arrive, while her sisters and I dreamed about their budding romance. When Karen died, I felt a part of him died with her. I can't help but feel he is finally happy to be with his beloved wife again. May you both rest in peace.
