Michael Curler Obituary
Neenah - Michael G. Curler, age 57 of Wellington, FL and formerly of Neenah, passed away surrounded by his family, early Tuesday, April 17, 2018, after a four-year battle with kidney cancer. He was born October 24, 1960 to the late Howard and Alice (Welsh) Curler in New London.
Mike will be remembered as an extremely generous, fun-loving man with a huge heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed sending kitschy gifts to his family and friends at any given time. He also spent time reading, listening to music, and especially liked traveling in his RV around the country to visit family. He recently lived with his wife between Minnesota and Florida, preferring summers in the Midwest and southern winters. A lover of the outdoors, he liked spending time boating, fishing, and just quietly looking at and listening to nature. He enjoyed science fiction, and had fun searching for "extra-terrestrials." He also loved his dog, Jimmy; airplanes, and downhill skiing.
Mike founded Centracor, Inc., a company in Oshkosh that manufactured paper tubes and cores, and also ran a pallet company in New London until 2002. At that point he retired and became a passionate investor in the stock market.
Mike is survived by his wife, Nanette "Nan" (Shallbetter) Curler; his son, Brian (Taylor) Curler; his step-daughter, Jessica (Mike) Purtell; his step-son Chuck (Kayla); and by four grandchildren: Quentin, Brady, Leo and Miles Purtell. He is further survived by his siblings: Katie (Joe) Golichnik; Jane (Ron) Johnson; Pat Curler; Jeff (Lea) Curler; and Gwen (Bob) Krostue; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nick Curler; and by his "Irish twin" brother and best friend, Joe Curler, who passed away in February.
A memorial service for Mike will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 8 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 439 Washington Ave., Neenah, Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service. Mike will be laid to rest alongside his parents and Joe in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah.
