Quintin Ivan Thede, age 82 of Black Creek, Wisconsin died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at his home of cancer. He was born October 17, 1931 in the Town of Maine, son of the late Lonson R. and Esther E. (Freeman) Thede, the 7th child of 15.

Quintin was drafted into the Army on Oct. 22, 1952 and went to Fort Sheridan, Ill. He had his basic training and Leadership Schooling at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He was shipped to Etajima, Japan and went through Chemical Warfare School and from there to various locations in Korea with the Combat Engineers. After returning home he was in the Army Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in September of 1960.

He was in multiple occupations during his lifetime. He grew up on a farm and then worked as a plastering laborer for Andrew Marske in Appleton, a millworker at Thilmany in Kaukauna, one year in farming, in Assembly at Fox Tractor, a security officer at Treasure Island, a teacher in the Hortonville and Freedom Schools for 25 years, a 1st Responder for the Town of Maine for 3 years, a Red Cross CPR Instructor, served 2 terms as Chairman and 1 term as Treasurer of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shiocton, served as a Charter Member of the Shiocton Snow Chiefs and a Bailiff in the Outagamie County Courts.

He attended Riverside Grade School, a one room school for grades 1-8. At the age of 32 he received his GED at Oshkosh University, attended the Outagamie County Teachers College in Kaukauna, receiving a 2 yr. license after which he started teaching and attending the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh during summers and evenings where he received his BS +12 degree.

He married Audrey Steward on June 4, 1955 at Trinity English Lutheran Church in Appleton. After 3 years in Appleton, they bought one of his father's farms in the Town of Maine and he even tried his hand at farming before returning to advance his schooling to become a teacher. After retirement, he and Audrey compiled and published 5 books of local historical interest.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey; his children: Debbie (Gary) Croell of Black Creek, their children Mike (Kristy), Appleton; Kate (fiancé Cameron Magee), Chicago; Dana (Holly) Thede, De Pere, their children Lindsey, at home, Drew and his son Sylas, Idaho; Diana Oberg of Appleton, her children Erin, Milwaukee, Tara, her daughter Murphie, and Evan of Appleton, and Nathan of Hortonville. He is further survived by five brothers: LeRoy (Marge), Norman (Eloise), Lloyd (Susan), Wendell (Pam), Colin (Diane) and two sisters: Rosalie (Bill) Brennan, and Betty Rogne; a sister-in-law Carol; brother-in-laws: Al Kassel, Fred Luetschwager and John Luetschwager; many nieces and nephews. Survivors also include Audrey's family members and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Orton, Roger and Dell; four sisters: Mary Elsinger, Marcia Kassel, Lonnie Luetschwager, and Grace Luetschwager.

While going through all the serious complications after his surgery, Quintin's family, relatives, Pastor Paul Hinz, and friends, "Circled the Wagons" so there was always someone with him or in touch with him at all times through emails and Facebook. We cannot thank them enough for all their thoughtful words and encouragement.

In Quintin's own words: "As we all know, the Lord has a plan for us and He is fully aware of all those heartfelt prayers for me. We also know that when Jesus taps us on the shoulder and softly says "Time to go. Your room is ready"…we go!"

Friends may call at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shiocton on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 11 a.m. with services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Hintz officiating. Military Rites will take place at the church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.muehlboettcher.com

I have many beautiful words to say about Mr. Quintin Thede, He was an awesome teacher and he has done so many wonderful things in his life. He always seemed to always have a smile on his face no matter how many times I made him cross but he never gave up on me.
