Roger Ernst Obituary

Roger C. Ernst

Neenah - Roger Carl Ernst died at his home in Neenah on November 20, 2018, at the age of 75. He was born in the Town of Black Wolf on July 3, 1943, son of the late Donald and Myra (Neitzel) Ernst. Roger was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and earned his Master's Degree in Colorado. He spent his entire career teaching at Neenah High School where he also coached forensics and served as chairman of the English Department for over ten years. Neenah High School had previously honored Roger with a literary scholarship named in his honor. He was a charter member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Oshkosh, and had currently been a longtime and faithful member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Neenah where he served on the building committee and sang in the choir. All will remember Roger for his activity with the EAA, his quick wit and sense of humor, and his love of reading, music, and refinishing antique furniture.

Survivors include his twin brother: Ronald (Susan) Ernst, his sister: Beverly Belkye, a nephew: Andy (Julie) Ernst; nieces: Dawn (Tom) Karman, Amy Sue (David) Werner, and Vicki Belkye; as well as seven grandnephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Clarence Belkye, his nephew Keith Belkye, and his golden retriever Abbie.

Funeral services for Roger will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 26, 2018 at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1140 Tullar Road in Neenah, with Revs. Jon and Tabitha Gallatin officiating. Interment will take place at Scheller Cemetery near Oshkosh. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Monday morning from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.

My sympathy to the family, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Mr. Ernst was one of the only reasons my time at NHS was enjoyable, he was a inspiring teacher and took the time to get to know his students. I had the pleasure of getting to know the man behind the teacher, when he became a member of my church and I'm glad my children got to know him as well, though I must say I never did feel comfortable calling him Roger!

So sorry for your loss. I just visited with Roger a couple of weeks ago. We were neighbors on Green Acres Lane for many years. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. God bless you Roger!
