Roma Schneider Obituary

Schneider, Roma Mae (Wagner)

Roma Mae (Wagner) Schneider, age 95, entered heaven to be with her husband, Marvin on April 18, 2013. She was born on May 2, 1917, in Lark, WI, daughter of the late Henry & Sadie (Saenger) Wagner. Her formal education started at the Lark School and she later graduated from West High School in Green Bay. As a young girl she helped with the family business, especially working at the H.J. Wagner Grocery Store. She and her family spent many summer holidays at Shawano Lake, the Dells area, and at Lake Thompson. Roma was active in many church and school activities. On June 11, 1938, Roma married the love of her life, Marvin Schneider, in the EUB church in Lark, WI. She and her husband then moved to the Washington D.C. Area during the World War II years. Marvin was employed with the F.B.I. During that time they saw many world dignitaries first hand coming to Washington to seek help for the war, as Madame Chiang Kai-shek and the King & Queen of England, George & Elizabeth. As was the custom, Roma was invited to the White House along with other F.B.I. Wives. She always enjoyed talking about having tea time with Eleanor Roosevelt. After several years in Washington they moved back to the family farm in Maribel where she raised her family and became an avid gardener noted for her beautiful flower gardens. Roma was a lifelong active member of the United Methodist Church in both Lark and Denmark. Roma and Marvin raised five children on the family farm which also served as a popular summer vacation spot for their many nieces and nephews. Roma and Marvin traveled extensively around the United States and also to a few other countries. Their last major trip together was by car to the East Coast to tour and then stay with their son and his family in Sandy Hook, Conn. Roma is survived by four sons, James (Joyce) Schneider, Marvin (Shirleyann) Schneider, Dr. Dale (Carla) Schneider, and Bruce Schneider. One daughter, Romelle (Rev. John) Wirth. One sister, Virginia Schmelter. Five grandchildren, Russ (Tina) Schneider, Lee (Angie) Schneider, Dr. Chris (Angie) Schneider, Randy (Beth) Nickel and Terri Hunt. Two step-grandchildren, Kelly (Ken) Johnson and Todd (Julie) Zumach. She is further survived by 13 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and her friend and companion of the last few years Sr. Louise Hunt. Family and friends may call at the Larkwood Chapel, (½ mile south of Lark on Hwy G at Dickinson Road), on Thursday April 25, 2013, from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday April 26th at the Zion United Methodist Church, (231 Chicago Street, Denmark), from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Henry Yoap will be officiating with burial to follow at the Lark Emmanuel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Denmark Zion United Methodist Church and the Lark Cemetery Assn. Roma's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Grancare Nursing Facility for the many years of assistance, Dr. R. Bachhuber, the first floor staff at Aurora Baycare, and the Aurora Visiting Nurses Assn.

Bruce,
I remember the nice little lunch treats your mom would pack for your trips to school. Your mom sounds like an endearing woman with many stories about her meetings with famous political people! I know how much she meant to you and that was evident in your many trips in to town to visit her at the care facility. You are a son whom she was quite proud to have and know!

Bruce and family. I am sorry to learn that Roma has passed away. My yearly visit with her for her annual placement review was always a pleasant experience. I wish I had known more about her life because I would have loved to hear stories about the famous people she met and feel like I missed a great opportunity.
