Susan Bauer Obituary

Susan Horn Bauer

Neenah - It is with deep sadness that I report the passing of Susan Horn Bauer of Neenah, WI on Monday, March 8 at the age of 73 years. Sue had been battling cancer and living with her daughter Jenna Bauer for treatment in Chicago, IL since July 2020. She was a fighter and was beating the cancer, but her weakened immune system could not overcome COVID and she ultimately passed away quickly and painlessly.

Sue was the loving mother of Jenna Bauer of Chicago, IL and caring sister to Steven Horn of St. Louis, MO. Sue is also survived by several dear cousins and extended family members. Sue will be fondly remembered by her book club, poker group, and many cherished friends.

Sue was born to the late Dorris (Mueller) Horn-Caselli and Donald Horn on May 14, 1947 in St. Louis, MO. Sue received her BA in English from Drury University in 1969 and briefly taught as her first job. She married Lawrence Bauer and they were together for 20 years. Shortly after they married, they moved to Milwaukee, WI so Lawrence could attend medical school, and Sue supported them through her job managing the candle store Wicks & Sticks. She was so hardworking and successful that she was quickly promoted to a bigger Wicks & Sticks store and subsequently won an award and big bonus for being the best manager. After having Jenna, she devoted her life to being a loving and attentive full-time mom. It is because of Sue's support, guidance, and love that Jenna has gotten as far as she has and was able to become the person she is today. Sue always believed in helping others, and in her later years she volunteered at Theda Clark Hospital in the gift shop. Sue had a generous heart and would "pay it forward" by covering the food of the car behind her in any drive-through.

Sue was a lover of animals and believed in adopting pets from rescue shelters to give them a better home. She always had at least one dog by her side and had a particular fondness for chihuahuas. She is survived by her adored chihuahua Tanner who is now in the loving care of Jenna. Sue was happiest sitting on her porch in the sun with her dog on her lap enjoying a cup of tea or coffee while reading a book or watching the birds at the bird feeders outside her windows.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer in Neenah, WI. A memorial will then be held, and Sue will be put to rest with her parents in the Horn family plot at Immanuel Church Cemetery in St. Louis, MO later this summer or fall. More details for Sue's ceremonies will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we recommend donations to the charity of your choice. Some suggestions honoring things Sue loved or charities that she liked to donate to are:

-An animal charity such as the Humane Society or your local animal shelter

-Neenah Public Library, your local public library, or a literacy program

-The Paine Art Center & Gardens, Boy's & Girl's Clubs of the Fox Valley

-St Jude's or other cancer center

Jenna, I just found out about the death of your mom. I’m so sorry. I live close to your mother’s house in Neenah but hadn’t seen her in quite awhile. Now I know why. So glad she could be with you as she fought for her life.
