Nutter, William C.
William C. Nutter, 84, Hortonville, Wis., passed away in Irving, Texas, on Friday, June 24, 2011. He was born Charles Lindberg Anderson on June 15, 1927, in Parkersburg, W.V., son of Harry Anderson of Cream Ridge, N.J., and Alberta Wright Schooley of Allentown, N.J. After three months in foster care, William was selected as a class project to be raised for nine months by the Home Economics Department of West Virginia University. The students nicknamed him "Jack". At ten months of age, he was adopted by the late George and Lula (Criswell) Nutter of Cairo, W.V., who had his name changed to William Chalmers Nutter. He graduated from high school in Spencer, W.V., in 1945. He served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Medical Corp. at Brook General Hospital and Fitzsimmons General Hospital. On Oct. 29, 1953, he was united in marriage to Sharon Lucille O'Neill of Cairo, W.V. The couple had five children during their 18 years of marriage.
He attended a year of college in Marietta, Ohio and then graduated from West Virginia University with a Master's Degree in History and Political Science. He worked at Union Carbide as a chemist and quality control analyst until his retirement. On Jan. 22, 1985, he was united in marriage to Nola Baehman in Norfolk, Va. The couple resided in Hortonville, Wis. She preceded him in death in 1996.
He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and worked with the Boy Scouts of America for ten years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Mt. Olivet Lodge #3, Scottish Rite in Parkersburg.
He is survived by five children, Douglas Nutter, Tucson, Ariz.; Stephen Nutter, Irving, Texas; Cheryl Callahan, Colchester, Vt.; Deborah Nutter, Mechanicsburg, Penn.; Michael Nutter, Hanover, Penn; and five step-children, Sue Broeniman, Hortonville, Wis.; Rebecca Riggles, Green Bay, Wis.; Jonathon Baehman, Hortonville, Wis.; Mark Baehman, Hortonville, Wis.; and Jane Baehman-Jones, Appleton, Wis. He is further survived by 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Nola, he was preceded in death by a stepson Paul; and a grandson, Danny.
The funeral service for William will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Faith United Methodist Church in Greenville, Wis., with the Rev. Tom Lambrecht officiating. Visitation will be held at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville, Wis., on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., where a 6:30 p.m. Masonic Service will be held. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the South Medina Cemetery. Military Rites will be held.
A memorial fund has been established for the Faith United Methodist Church in Greenville, Wis.
