Alberta May Smith, 97, of Idaho Falls, passed away Aug. 3, 2017, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. She was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice and her loving family.
Alberta was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Ernest Albert Stuart and Celia Etta Verley Stuart. She grew up and attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho.
On June 1, 1937, she married Carl Arthur Smith in Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple in 1938. To this union were born four daughters, Karlene, DeAnna, LaRae and Lucy. Alberta and Carl made their home in Chubbuck and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Carl passed away June 18, 1986.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various ward and stake callings. Alberta was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Alberta cared for her mother for 14 years prior to her passing. She had a great love for family history and much of her life was spent pursuing that interest. Alberta enjoyed painting, sewing and crocheting. She loved making all kinds of crafts for her family.
Alberta is survived by her daughters, Karlene M. (David) Lee, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; DeAnna (Clifford) Lacy, of Yuma, Arizona; LaRae J. (Reed) Belnap, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Lucy M. (Wil) Bryte, of Idaho City, Idaho; sister, Noralene Watson, of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, LeRoy and Albert Stuart; and her husband, Carl Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Idaho Falls 11th Ward Building, the corner of 12th Street and Juniper Drive, with Bishop Randy Peterson officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m prior. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
