Alona King Obituary

Alona Marie Marean King, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 30, 2025, at her home.

Born in Fresno, California, on October 10, 1944, to John Herbert Marean and Alice Marie Wade Marean, Alona grew up in Reno, Nevada, and graduated from Reno High School in 1962. She began her studies in accounting at the University of Nevada, Reno, before transferring to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree.

In 1966, Alona married Kenneth W. King, Jr., and together they raised two children, Darren and Holly, in Idaho Falls. Throughout her long and meaningful career as an optometrist specializing in Vision Therapy, Alona made a lasting mark on the profession. She was the founder of TfVE.net (Tools for Visual Enhancement), developing innovative tools that continue to support Vision Therapy offices around the world. Alona was a former Board Member of OEPF (Optometric Extension Program Foundation) and an OEPF Lecturer, she believed deeply and generously gave her time and expertise to advance the field of behavioral optometry.

Alona's passion for sharing knowledge extended beyond borders. In 1985, she joined a group of optometrists sponsored by the American Academy of Optometry and the U.S. People to People Program to exchange clinical insights with doctors in the People's Republic of China. Her lifelong commitment to service also included leadership roles as a Girl Scout leader, "Cookie Mom," and as the founder of both Zonta and Civitan Clubs in Idaho Falls--efforts for which she was respectfully honored.

Following her retirement, Alona continued to express her love for singing and teaching, nurturing others with the same enthusiasm that defined her professional life.

Alona is survived by her daughter, Holly Michelle (Darrin) Tillotson of University Place, WA; brother, David (Trudy) Marean of Fresno, CA; daughter-in-law, Erica Lynn King of Blue Springs, MO; and four grandchildren: Zoe Harper Tillotson, Kennedy Madison King, Alexa Grace King, and Steven Christopher King.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Darren; and her brothers, Raymond and Steven Marean.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Idaho Falls.
