Ann Delmastro Obituary

Ann Mary Rothenberg Delmastro passed away July 4, 2024 in Prescott, Arizona surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was born in Brooklyn, NY to Sydney Rothenberg and Florence (Papa) Rothenberg. She grew up in Guttenberg, NJ. Ann was very serious and a good student and after high school went on to attend Fordham University where she graduated in 1967.

Ann had an adventurous spirit and, at a time when there were few women in the sciences, she pursued a PhD in chemistry at Cornell University. For her PhD research, Ann analyzed specimens from the first moon landing!

After graduating from Cornell, Ann was offered a job at the INEL in Idaho. With her adventurous spirit, Ann decided to move to Idaho in 1972, a state she really didn't know before that time. At the INEL, she was one of only 2 women in her department. Ann was a dedicated and loving daughter and moved her parents to Idaho Falls with her so that she could help her mom care for her dad who had Parkinsons.

At her job at INEL, Ann met Joseph Delmastro who she eventually married in 1975. During their time dating and after marriage, Ann and Joe enjoyed adventures together of hiking, backpacking and camping together, as well as traveling to various national parks.

Ann continued to work at the site until 1979 when their only child, Lyn was born. At that time, Ann retired from her career and focused on raising Lyn as well as many different volunteer opportunities in service to her community.

Ann was a volunteer for the AARP Tax Aide program (she received recognition for 25 years of service), she was active in trying to reform the educational system in Idaho Falls, she volunteered in the classroom at Idaho Falls High School for several years, and she was a dedicated volunteer for the Christmas Basket program as part of the Catholic Church for approximately 35 years.

In 2003, Ann began a new adventure of working for O'Brien Tomchak during tax season as a professional tax preparer and she continued to work there for 19 years.

Ann, Joe, and Lyn enjoyed many years of traveling, camping, and adventures in their VW Van, particularly visiting national parks like Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce and Zion. In 2011, Ann took Lyn on one of Lyn's dream vacations to Italy where they enjoyed new kinds of adventures traveling through Tuscany and seeing Rome as well.

In 2023, after 50 years in Idaho Falls, Ann and Joe took a final adventure and moved to Prescott to be closer to their daughter Lyn and her husband Michael. After the move, the family enjoyed smaller adventures of exploring Northern Arizona together. In 2024, Lyn and Michael traveled to Italy and visited the small town that Ann's ancestors on the Papa side immigrated from. Ann enjoyed seeing pictures and videos of where her ancestors came from.

Ann was a loving daughter to her parents, both of whom she was a caregiver for, a dedicated and caring mother to Lyn, and a loving and dedicated wife and, more recently, a caregiver to Joe. Ann was known by those fortunate to know and love her as being generous and kind-hearted, putting others before herself, and being a kind and caring friend. She loved to organize gatherings and activities for friends and family to enjoy.

Ann is preceded in death by her father Sydney, her mother Florence and her older brother Lawrence Rothenberg. She is survived by her husband Joe, her daughter Lyn and her son-in-law Michael Thomson.

In lieu of flowers, to honor Ann please donate to St. Vincent de Paul in Idaho Falls, specifically to the Christmas Basket Program.

Dear Joe , Lyn, and Michael I will always remember the good times we had when we were growing up Ann was a year and a day older than me. Your grandparents and Your mother would visit my parents and my Aunt Mary´s in Brooklyn where I lived. I will never forget your mother dressing up in cowgirls outfits when we were young. I was very sad to hear your mother passed away May my cousin rest in peace with the Lord.

Dear Joe, Lyn, and Michael,
We send you our heartfelt sympathy for Ann´s passing. We have so many great memories of Ann (and Joe) through the many ME events, parties, and camp outs. Then there were the church events and the frustrations. In all of it, I (Norma) always enjoyed Ann´s intellect and her compassion. I know she´s resting in the peace of Christ now, but her absence will be hard on you. Please reach out any time for love and support.
Love,

Dear Joe Lyn and Michael. So sorry to hear about the death of Ann. She was always a loving person to all. I can still tell all the visits to Gutenberg NJ with her Mom and Dad. Her Uncle George was so proud of her accomplishment. Rest in Peace.

Dear Lyn, Joe and Michael,
It is with great sadness that we´ve learned of Ann´s passing.
I first met Ann about 30 years ago when she opened her family home to a young French student. I was a complete stranger to the Delmastro family but they treated me like a VIP. I still have very fond memories of my stay with them back then and for that I will be forever grateful.
Lyn and I became friends and kept in touch over the years despite being an ocean apart.
Years later I moved to the USA with my family and was determined to show them the beautiful Yellowstone National Park that I had discovered with the Delmastros. So we went on a road trip in 2014 and met again. The picture is from then and Ann and Joe were exactly as I remembered them.
Ann was a lovely and kind hearted person and I could not thank her enough for her generosity.
We will be thinking of you all during these hard times. Please extend our heartfelt condolences to the rest of your family.
Love, Perrine and the Boissier family
