Dan William Colling, 69, passed away Feb. 21, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Pocatello, Idaho, to William and Edith Colling. Dan grew up in Lava Hot Springs and was a Golden Glove Boxer before college, where he earned his degree in physics from Idaho State University. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. Most of his service was spent in Pennsylvania and some time in Texas.
He married Alice C. Riddle on Oct. 1, 1961, in Pennsylvania. Alice passed away on Oct. 2, 2000. Dan spent most of his life in Idaho, where he worked at INEEL and was an avid fly fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his children, Mindy (Doug) Foss of North Richland Hills, Texas, Kathy Palmer of Idaho Falls, and Brian (Sandy) Colling of Meridian; and three grandchildren, Kathy, Kayla and Travis. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his brother, Dave Colling; sister, Joyce Kozoyed; and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls, with the Rev. Bob Sherwood officiating. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites are under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team. Condolences may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.
