Danny Joe Summers, 55, of Rexburg, Idaho, was born July 20, 1955, and passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
From a very early age, it was easy to see that Danny had a great love for the outdoors. If you wanted to spend time with Danny, you needed a shovel, gun or fishing pole. Maybe on some days, you'd need all three.
Danny knew the value of working hard but also found time to play hard. He spent much of his life raising potatoes, raising his family and raising up everyone around him.
He excelled in everything he ever pursued. Whether it was hunting, farming, athletics or academics, he really was second to none.
Danny never missed an opportunity to share with others his greatest accomplishments: Sam, Bert and Ashlee, who were his pride and joy. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He left this world a better place than when he found it and has forever changed the lives of those who knew and loved him most. We love you, we will miss you, and may God be with you 'til we meet again.
He is survived by his mother, Bernise Summers; his sister, Jana (Mike) Phillips; his children, Sam Summers, Bert Summers and Ashlee Ricks and their spouses; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bert Summers; and brothers, Harvey and Billy Summers.
A memorial will be held in the honor of Danny Summers and Jodi Wyatt from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Danny's airplane hangar at the Rexburg Airport.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Sugar City Cemetery.

I met Danny years ago through my brother Brad. I will never forget that smile Danny always had. It didn't matter where you were he always had time to talk and catch up with what was going on in your life. I had the privilege to fly with Danny in the T-6 during spud harvest years ago buzzing Lynn Peterson and doing Cuban 8's in the sky north of Rexburg. I will cherish that day forever. Thanks for your friendship through the years and god bless you and your family, John Simmons

Danny, from all of at the Idaho Falls Airport Traffic Control Tower, you will truly be missed! You are were always professional, courteous and could take a teasing too! You were always great to work with and a pleasure to be around. You were an all-around nice guy that you couldn't help but like. Great guy with beautiful, magnificent aircraft. I used to open the catwalk door when he'd taxi by so that I could hear the growl of those awesome radial engines. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and we hope you may find some comfort in knowing he truly was a marvelous man and great pilot. He never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge and aircraft with others and had many talents to offer. He will be missed and was loved by all!

My heart is heavy with sadness for Bonnie, for Danny's children & grandchildren and for Jodi's family as well.
Danny was a wonderful hunting companion, an excellent pilot and a sneaky but ethical poker player. He will be missed.
I treasure the memories of flying with him across the face of the Tetons, over Yellowstone and down through Island Park. The barrel roll over Rexburg was exhilarating.
I never saw Danny without a smile on his face. He was a friend to all who knew him. While I regret being unable to spend more time in his company, I will be forever grateful for the good times we had.

My wife Diane and I had the pleasure of knowing Danny for a few years, and enjoyed good times with him in Ketchum, the Reno air races and here in CA, where he visited once to go pheasant hunting with us. He was an excellent wingshot, an adventurer, and just a great guy to be around. We are saddened by his loss and we extend our thoughts and prayers to his family.

I manage the Legacy Flight Museum next door to Danny's hanger. We couldn't have asked for a better neighbor. Danny was a superb pilot and always willing to display his aircraft in our museum and share his vast knowledge, skills and experience with us. He will be greatly missed at the Rexburg airport. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
