Jo Ann G. Wood, 91, passed away on November 17, 2025, in her home under the care of her daughters and Brio Hospice. Jo Ann was born on April 28, 1934, at Jenny Lake, Wyoming, to Jack and Marge Kranenberg. Her life began in Teton Valley, where she attended school in Jackson, Wyoming, and gained a love of wild places in the shadow of the Tetons. She was proud to have been baptized by choice at St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson in 1952 and loved to share that she attended Catholic school at Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In 1956, Jo Ann married her sweetheart, Acie J. Wood, in the Chapel of the Transfiguration. Three children were born to this union: Naomi, Craig, and April. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where Jo Ann worked at the store she and Acie owned, Highland IGA, but her greatest devotion was as a mother and supporting her family at home.
Jo Ann was a beauty, with auburn hair and green eyes, a gift she passed down to her daughter April, her granddaughter Ashley Jo, and her great-granddaughter Felicity. Life tested her strength first with the heartbreaking loss of her son, Craig, at the age of 21, a young father gone too soon, and later with the passing of her beloved husband Acie in 2001.
She was warm and loving, and when her grandson, Tye, needed a home as a teenager, Jo Ann and Acie welcomed him with open arms. In time, he became like a son to her, a bond that brought joy and healing to her heart.
Jo Ann's home was the heart of family life and holiday gatherings. She took pride in caring for her home and tending her garden. She welcomed new additions to the family wholeheartedly and made them feel like they always belonged. She passed on her love of camping and the outdoors to her children and grandchildren, spending many summers at Trail Creek and at her mother's home on Flat Creek.
Sharp-witted and full of humor, Jo Ann delighted in puzzles, books, and long walks with her family and beloved dogs. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, heart, and unwavering devotion to family.
She now joins those who went before her: her husband Acie, her parents Jack and Marge Kranenberg, brothers Jackie, Sid, and Wally, her son Craig, and grandson Robert Jared. She leaves behind daughters Naomi Wood and April Winters; sister Marion (Jerry) Eastman; brother Clyde Kranenberg; grandchildren Tye (Liz) Wood, Ashley Jo (Hsiang-Hua) Winters-Glenn, and Aubree Winters Preston; great-grandchildren Craig, Felicity, Tucker, Meredith, Rhian, and little Tye; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to know her.
At her request, no services will be provided. Condolences may be sent online at
